My first Becker should be here this week.

I just completed trade negotiations for a BK9. If everything goes as expected, I will be receiving it later this week. I originally was looking for a BK7 but when I was offered the BK9, I did some quick research and decided that it was a good even trade and will work well for what I want to use it for.

My search for a fixed blade began this weekend when I was sitting on my back patio with my Fiance and we were discussing the fact that the vines growing on my privacy fence were getting out of hand (like they do every year) and I said, I wish I had a better tool to clean them up. (The Felco pruners just make the job last for ever). I want to be able to hack away but still be precise enough to not damage the fence. That is when my fiance said "A big knife would probably work." That was like music to my ears:) So I am trading one of my folders away (that I never carried) and am getting a good tool for some yard work and a handy camp knife.

I know the BK9 is a pretty big knife for my first real fixed blade/becker but given the circumstances, I wasn't carrying the folder at all and I know that I will get at least some use out of the becker. I also have a 2.5 inch diameter tree that shouldn't be there growing in the corner of my back yard. I should have taken care of it a long time ago but now that I am getting the becker, I think dispatching that tree will be good practice.

Long story long, I just wanted to let you beckerheads know that your passion for Beckers had a great influence on my choice to look for a Becker when deciding that I needed a good strong fixed blade. I hope it is everything you all say it is:)

Welcome Ray! You made a great choice. That BK9 will make short work of the vines.

Beckerheads love pictures! A dirty knife with piles of defeated vines sounds like a good one.

Welcome, and yes, we like pics, dirty dirty vine pics. Of the knife of course.

the BK9 is exactly what you need....a great knife that make yardwork somewhat entertaining LOL

You are correct. I probably could have used my "hard use" folder for the vines but why not get a better tool for the job and make it a little more fun while I am at it. Also, I guarantee that my ZT0550 wouldn't be able to dispatch that tree in my yard nearly as quickly or with as much entertainment:)

There's not much finer than a Becker BK-Niner! Give those vines hell!!

Oh man pictures please! Me and my brother are set on getting a king for each of us. Would be handy trail clearing tool for me!

Congrats on the knife man, you'll love it. I was on the fence between a 7 and a 9 when I was considering my first big Becker, and ended up with the 7 just because it looked more like a cowboy bowie to me lol. I'll probably still get around to picking one up, but for now my 4 can handle my chopping needs.
