I was able to donate some time to the post-tornado cleanup effort in Moore, Oklahoma. I'd had my new BK16 in my kit for two weeks already, but had yet put it use. I strapped it on my hip for the first time to go help clear brush and rubble from a couple of residential lots.

My camera skills suck, but I thought I'd pose it for few shots anyway:

As you can see from the secon pic, there's no house left here at all. The structure was completely knocked down, and our goal was to clear the rubble and debris off the lot until there was nothing but a clean foundation and grass. About the only work the knife did was to cut carpet down to manageable size squares as we pulled it (soaking wet, of course) from the floor. It still didn't fail to draw compliments on how sharp it seemed to be (still with the factory edge).

And a few other pics of the random destruction:

awesome to see caring people out there like yourself... Havin a little fun with a new knife along the way, even more awesome ;)

Man the devastation is unreal!! So glad people like you guys r willing to help out in a time of need!!! Great pics thanks

I can't think that's got to be the best cause I've seen a Becker(or just about any knife) used for.
Thank God for people like you who help they're fellow man at times like this.
People like you make this world a better place.
God Bless.

The one thing I like about natural disasters in middle America is this......

You do not see a bunch of people robbing the liquor stores and yelling for fema to come help them. This is Middle Arerica, we take care of ourselves because we do not need the government to do it for us.

You are proving that our country is truly a government of the people. Good job at jumping in there and helping out.

Good pictures, what was everybody else carrying?

You see a bunch of matching t shirts in the pic with the overturned cars. Those are other volunteers from the same organization. Coklest part of you the day was when a random guy off the street walked up and asked if he could help out. He was unfortunately turned away, since the organization needed waivers and such. But he found another random dude, scraped some tools together and went right to work on the lot next door! Thats as good as it gets.

NOBODY else was carrying. I musta been the only knife nerd present that day!

Team Rubicon would have let the guy sign the waiver on the spot. They would have brought a few stacks of the forms with them. They pretty cool volunteers like that.

A lot of people can see the devastation in pictures or on the news, but until you are their, it really doesnt sink in how bad things are. Its insane to think that a couple air masses banding together could pick up a car, crumble it, then toss it around like a used tissue. The weather here in Oklahoma (and in other parts of the nation) is getting exhausting. Just the other night, after another round of tornadoes, rotation came over the top of my new home. Both of my neighbors lost trees, yet my trees which are about the biggest in the neighborhood, did not even loose a branch. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason, it just feels senseless, but the instant amount of support and help to those in need is incredible. Everyone is lending a hand however they can.

Good on you for getting out there in the trenches and doing the grunt work, and what a great use for a great blade.
