I got my first Benchmade yesterday. I got a 551 Griptilian with the olive drab handle. I think it is a brute. I was suprised at how big it was, I bought it sight unseen. I really like it though. Hopefully it will serve me well.

Now you need a BM Skirmmish. It's really a brute. :D

Have fun, for a long while I didn't think I needed a BM. I found a great deal on a Grip 550S, I didn't like it too much. Now, I have an Apparition. I consider this my first Benchmade. Looking to get a Nimravus Cub and a 42 balisong. Not only am I addicted to Spyderco, now Benchmade.

The 551 is a great knife--in fact, it's one of my all time favorites.
I think you will be pleased with its performance.

The handle is extremely comfortable to use and one of the best designs in the knife world.

Cheers,
Allen.

My first Benchmade is in the mail! An auto-Benchmite, one of the limited edition rainbow anodized ones. I'm probably going to spend more time playing with it than actually using it, but it will be fun to have.

Excellent choice.

Welcome to the slippery, downhill slide to poverty!

Yeah, I've seen some of those poor guys, pushing their cart full of knives... :D

I better stop kidding around, I got bills to pay and knives to buy!

minnesotashooter, Are you going to add a Doug Ritter Griptilian also? You'll probably want it really bad after you see it.

Congrats on your Griptilian! I just ordered one this morning. I love my new 520 and now I want another Axis Lock! I ordered the 551 with the sand colored Valox scales. I can't wait  .

The one thing I came to realize is that when I got my 520, it took me some time to get comfortable with positioning my hand in such a way that I would naturally place my thumb on the Axis Lock pin. My other knives are all liner locks with thumbstuds. I much prefer opening the knife with the Axis Lock. I don't even touch the thumbstud on the 520. Another thing I became aware of was how negligent I am when it comes to keeping my fingers out of the blade path. Using the Axis Lock to open and close the blade has made me very conscious of this so I don't do it anymore. Like handguns, I prefer to hit the controls the same way all the time without having to look at which knife I've got in my hand. My Griptilian will replace my Kershaw Black Out that I also carry :D .

Hi,

I have 2 Benchmade on the way from New Graham knives, the 551 and the 710. I don't have any benchmades. Also ordered the Spyderco Pacific Salt H1, the diamond rods, ultra fine rods, a SAK Huntman Lite.......

I got my Auto-Benchmite in the mail today... great knife! It's soooo much fun....

Yea, I also just picked up my first Benchmade. A Griptillion 551 with black handle, 440C blade. It has been my EDC since. The handle shape and size are excellent and I'm convinced the axis lock is fail proof. It also didn't take long to master the "flick open" trick that someone posted here.

My first was the 710 in ATS-34. I figured that I needed something beefy and utilitarian with the charm of the Buck 110. BTW, my 2nd one is on the way, the Tether knife.
