My first Benchmade!

Previously, the only knives I owned were Leatherman multi tools and Swiss Army Knives. I owned a few Kershaws, but despite their quality, the Kershaw speed safes felt more like toys than knives. Yesterday, I recieved my Benchmade Ritter Mini Grip.

I must say I am pretty impressed by the mini Ritter. It was my first time using the axis lock and I don't think I will ever switch to another lock. The axis lock is simple to use and your finger isn't in the path of the blade when you close it. The knife's S30V blade shape appears great and functional, though I haven't done any testing with it yet. Some people say the handles of the Mini Ritter appear cheap, but I don't think so. Even though I have never used G10, the handles of the Mini Ritter is grippy and tough enough for me.

Since I am only a high school senior entering college, the Mini Ritter will be my EDC knife for a very long long time.

just a quick question, is it good to open my Mini Ritter by snapping it? I heard snapping is bad for the axis lock, any truth to that?

Nice choice for a first Benchmade. The Axis lock and Mini Grip design are both tough, I don't think flicking it open is bad. If it's your preference for opening, so be it.

Excellent knife! I have the larger size Ritter, and really like it.

I don't think flipping it open will harm the lock, but you might want to be careful about where you open it that way: as a college prof, I've learned the hard way that folks at such places can react really negatively to any blade, and a fast draw-flip opening can create a political mess you won't want to be involved it - even if it was only so you could slit open an envelope or slice your sandwich in half.

Watch the campus legalities about blades, and whatever you carry, learn to use a covert opening and use style - you want to minimize drawing attention to your knife, not the reverse!

Best wishes for your studies!

Steve
