well, hell - 3 days ago persay, i bought a gerber knife as i had pictured in this forum, many of you probably saw it.. now today, at the gun shop i frequent and sometimes work at, i picked up a BENCHMADE!!!! i had some extra cash and i picked this baby up for like $45.95. i LOVE it. feels great and from the post i made about gerbers, yall compared them to benchmades and said they dont compare because benchs are much better.. so thats what i got!:D i am happy with my purchase. i just have heard that i cant carry it with my CCW rig, which is a Glock 26 subcompact 9mm, because the blade is too long or something like that.. sucks i know..

i think this is the model of my knife... could be wrong, i got it off benchmades website.

I've never handled this one myself, but I like the design. $45.95? Seems a little over priced to me. It goes for $40 on the BM website and $25 at NGK.

But it is a fixed blade and full tang, so it should be plenty reliable. The 440C blade isn't the highest performance steel, but it is very good for the money and BM does a great 440C IMO. I like the blade shape as well.

Congrats on your new toy.

Good luck with it , I have the folding version of that knife,"The Snipe'. It's also a big knife.
Benchmade is one of my favorite brands....

underaged, what do you mean "highest performance steel?" just was wondering

Welcome and congrats on your 1st. Benchmade. I still remember that feeling.:D As for the steel questions, go to the Toolshed section and read the post at the top "steel FAQs. Written by Moderator Joe Talmadge. It has helped me greatly with my own questions.

Yes this is the lower end of Benchmade. In answer to your question about steel 440c (your knife) and AUS8 are considered to be good steels, but they are on the lower end of what is acceptable to us knuts.

440c is a great steel for beginners. Even Randal uses only 440b. Its the top of the line in the 440 series steel. Remember that most commercial chefs knives are only 420hc or 440a. And yes, BM makes a great heat treat on the 440c, even those from Taiwan. They also seems to get higher hardness from Aus8A that the rest of the industry.

Nice knife. I've been considering purchasing one, and even though I don't have a great deal of use for a fixed-blade, the price makes it difficult to pass up.
