All I can say is...why did it take me so long?!
Now for some eye candy...
I'm sure most of you can tell from the pics but it's a 551 Griptilian and a 275 Adamas. Endless ranting and raving as well as torturous youtube videos is what ultimately sold me on this duo. I had known about the Griptilian for years but the Adamas was recently revealed to me in one of the 'toughest folder' threads. At the prices I found on a certain website this pair was just too good to pass up.
And now a few more pics, but these for comparison with my EDC Ontario RAT 1. I know the Griptilian isn't really in the same class as the RAT 1 since it costs about 3x as much, but I still thought it was worth comparing. Keep in mind that the sharpened blade edge on the RAT 1 is the same length as the Griptilian...
^ This side-by-side shows the RAT 1 in the background as being slightly longer
^ A close up shows this a little better
^ Now with both knives open and lined up at the tip, the overall length difference becomes even greater than when they're closed
^ And finally an overhead shot w/ both knives lined up at the bottom shows this length difference at the tips of the blades - so although the blade edge lengths are identical the Griptilian manages to get it done with about 1/2" to 3/4" less overall length, yet equally good jimping...impressive
Like I said they just arrived in the mail today so I am still in the shock & awe phase.
My initial impression is that they are both incredibly solid knives. Never before had I been exposed to the Axis locking system and I gotta say, it's awesome. Super solid, easy to engage & disengage...very hard not to like I suppose. The Griptilian gives the 1-2 knockout to the RAT 1 because it's A) noticeably shorter overall length and B) noticeably lighter. As much as I like the grip on the RAT 1 I think the Griptilian is just as good with less handle space. I never minded the size & weight of the RAT 1...until now.
And so in closing...to those of you who are timid to take the plunge into the deeper end of the pool, please, don't be. If it's within your budget to own a Benchmade knife then you owe it to yourself to become an owner. I'm afraid I've opened the door to a whole other level of knife collecting - both money and quality wise. I hope you enjoyed reading, thanks.

P.S. - If you want to know where I purchased my Benchmades just send me a PM and I'll gladly share that info w/ you.
