okay...
nothing special..
made this from 3/16" O1 and actually made it in one day. (almost... i finished the polishing today)
but it is my first bolster knife... first knfie that has had a lanyard hole either but big whoop.
I am making test knives now.. refining my heat treating skills.
check out the video of me cutting with it. all i can say is "dang!"
this one might be up for sale later... perhaps. depends on how it reacts to my testing. i think the blade is rather... sharp... but how well it goes through its paces... we shall see

its really hard to believe youre a beginner by looking at your knives, incredible job! i hope to start making in the near future here, and you are really setting the bar high :D

thanks guys
well i would say the reason they look so good is stuff that i have been told by knifemakers at the two shows i have been to and here
(thats how i knew how to put bolsters on.)
thanks again
~Chris

I think you're beginning to get the hang of it ....

No, seriously, if this is where you're starting out, you're going to do very, very well.

You're right, nothing special..I'd say more like fantastic. I'd like to see what that would do to a hanging rope! Watch them fingers and keep up the excellent work!

*laughs*
well i have been making knives for about 4-5 years now.
however... about a dozen knives or so ago i turned a corner... i started hand finishing the knives and taking out all the scratches and stuff. i dont know...
i look back at the knives i made this time last year and shudder.. i dont know what happened.
but i am by no means a fresh off the farm maker. (not trying to brag but i aint all that new... so i have had some time to learn.
and i avoided bolsters cause i didnt know how to make them exactly and i was doing all my drilling with an old hand drill = BAD drilling precision
thanks for the encouragement

Very nice Chris!!! Looks like a great cutter/user. Let us know how your testing works out and if you decide to put this one up for sale let me know. :)

I hope to be as good as you are. Nice fit and finish!!! Do you make your mosaic pins? What kind of grinder do you use to shape your blades?

i do make mosaic pins but that one i bought from pop's knife supplies
i use a crappy northern tool belt grinder that uses a 2X23 belt. i just ordered a 2hp variable speed 2X72 Bader III gonna start cooking with gas!
thanks guys

a very stunning knife, and with the awesome habakis you do, you seem to be a very versatile knife maker. great job!

wow...
thanks!
i still have work to do on the habaki... the fit and the size... as well if you were to zoom up real close on the bolsters the arnt completly flat.
*grins* i didnt have any 1/8" brass so i scrounged... and came up with two pieces from one of those crappy chinese swords you get from bud k for $9 and used parts of those. anyway.. i ordered some brass (and stainless) for bolseters from McMaster Carr. yeeeeha
thanks!
~Chris

i love it. make one with black scales and stainless bolsters and i'll buy it.
