My first bowie is a production one, sheath question.

Are the sheathes of the bowie knives supposed to offer no resistance, allowing the knife to be whipped out fast yet offer no friction for undulations whilst running or jumping? My sheath is like that and I like the look of the sheath, yet I am not feeling it that if I run or fall or bend over it'll come right out if I don't have the guard snapped. Do you guys have any tips for modification so I can keep the sheath yet it be more difficult to pull out (gigidy)?

Right now I have neodymium magnet plates on the thong to keep it snapped there and secure while I move rigorously yet can still snap the knife out quickly, but it's not ideal.

There are no standard “Bowie” knives and certainly no designated sheath. Most traditional leather or nylon sheaths offer little resistance, which is why the have a retainer. Please post a picture of your knife and sheath.

For starters a bowie knife is a steroided out monster of a kitchen knife. That's what they were when Sheffield made them so it should be the rule.

This is the back.
It has two layers of leather between the font and back face leaving room which is probably why it has no resistance, as it's too much space. I have an idea to install something so the hole in the knife would catch something in the scabbard as a detent ball does. I'm trying magnets now and it sort works but that will mess up my watch with how many magnets I need to put on the back.

If you plan to use it in the field consider getting an aftermarket kydex sheath made.

Nice looking Bowie. Do you have the spec's for it. I just placed an order for the Puzon Wilderness Bowie from Work Tuff Gear, Victor Lin.
I have never owned a Bowie it also comes with a Kydex sheath and, I have just recently purchased everything to make a different kydex sheath. Good looking blade profile.

What do you mean by specs? I can measure it if you would like. They currently sell it at knifecenter, but I got mine from (shameless plug for my eBay bro) National_Knives_LLC, so it's not hard to get.
Gluing or just inserting a piece of leather in the sheath often helps.
I'll experiment with this. I just used Angulus Mink Oil on it to improve every aspect of the sheath yet would still like a tougher pull. Do you think I can glue leather in without taking it apart or will I need to undo it and resew with an awl and such?

That Puzon Wilderness Bowie is a nice looking Bowie knife.

Just use the retention strap...when you want the knife out, unstrap...
