A little while ago i posted pictures of the first bowie blade i forged... not i finished it. it is frikin sharp. i can cut through a Newspaper folded in half again, and keep cutting it.
O1 steel
it isnt very long, about 10" total. but hey for my first one....
the handle didnt turn out quite like i wanted... it is grenedillo
brass gaurd.. the blade was too small to do anything thicker.
please let me know what you think

I don't like it...you should send it to me to dispose of for you. Kidding! Awesome fit and finish! Very unique design, also.

*laughs*
i will see what i can do!
i have had a few offers of the same nature before yours though..
heh.. thanks! the blade and handle dont seem to flow into each othe quite right though...
thanks

Way cool mini-Bowie! Flat grind? How much???

I see what you mean about the handle. It seems to be off-center. Use a slightly larger diameter piece of wood to fix it.

That handle color would go great with my fire agate ring.

Ed

P.S. Keep up the good work. I'm convinced more than ever that you will become one of the major designer/makers.

I really like all your knives. This one is a neat design. I love the elongated handle.

Wow... i am overwhelmed

yes it is a flat grind to an absolute Zero edge. the thing is a RAZOR. about the "larger piece of wood" are you saying that in the making of the handle originally? becasue i didnt mean to sand it quite so much on the "bottom" of the handle where it meets the gaurd, but i didnt want to take any more off the top
better next time. and a little bigger too. i plan on making a sheath for this one. my guess is about $150 is that reasonable?
thanks so much for your vote of confidence. it really does mean alot.
thanks

so are you saying i should redo the handle and make it wider or actaully put more wood on there?
(and thanks!)
~Chris

Your stuff's looking good. My only comment other than the ones already made would be to make the transition from blade to ricasso more curved, instead of a squared notch. It would make for more comfort when choking up and let the eye flow from blade to handle.

I don't know. How good are you with wood? As a general rule of thumb, the handle should be as good as the blade. If you can modify the existing handle and have it look "right," do that; otherwise, start over with a new piece of wood.

In this case, I don't agree. I don't think a curved transition would go well with the simplicity of the full flat grind on this blade. Maybe if he made one with a hollow grind and false edge...

I agree as well.

For next time, I would make the ricasso a little shorter.

As always, great work!

Alex

Yeah, a slightly shorter ricasso seems to be what I'd like to see. The fit between the blade, guard, and handle could be a little better overall (seeing some gaps). Otherwise, it looks like a sweet little sticker!

Hey, I like that a lot better! If the break from the guard to the edge was just a little shorter I think you'd have a really popular design there.

thanks for the feedback!
i'll do that in the next one
and make the blade a little broader
i am also going to make the gaurd thicker and put a spacer behind it between the gaurd and handle

thanks!
~chris

I think it looks much better since you redid the handle. The transition f/the blade to the handle flows MUCH better know (at least to my eyes). I like it.
