My bride got a new credit card today and to break it in she took me to the only place in a 30 mile radius that has blades Wal Mart and told me to pick one out. Whee! You bet. I had the sales man ready to cry as I asked to see one blade after another. Finally I had decided on the Native by Spyderco.
I opened it and closed it about 20 times.Something was not right. It seemed the hole was too far out for my thumb to easily wheel it open.I have a Centofante 4 that fits my hand like a glove, but this Native that everyone raves about just didn't seem right. Once more I squat down and perused the blades. Then like a bolt out of the blue there she was.
A Buck 655 Nighthawk Tactical OD Fixed Blade knife.
When I saw the clerk bring the foot long box out from under the counter I pushed back the Spyder toward him and politely said you may put this one back.
I steadied my hands as I opened the over sized yellow box with the word BUCK stamped all over it. I slowly slid my new knife out of the box and gasped as I saw her for the first time. She lay snug in a Nylon sheath with her head of green and black poking out of the 11 and a half inch sheath. Her head held snugly in place by a tough black snap,as to keep her from jumping out at passers by.
I unleashed her and gently slid her free of the sheath.Rubberized handles, great thumb choke, gentle nubs and perfectly placed finger grips.
I noticed the Kydex liner inside the nylon sheath, nice touch too. The sturdy 420 High Carbon Black Oxide coated blade stamped BUCK 655 U.S.A.,balance and weight distribution was perfect. I let her lay on my index finger as the amazed sale clerk looked on.She swayed gently back and forth till she came to a perfect stop in the middle, signifying she was all ready to go home.
My wife paid the clerk and home we came. I paid $34.97 for this beauty a quick E-Bay check to ease my soul proved I actually saved about $10.00 plus shipping costs buying at Wally World tonight. Now when we go hiking on the weekends I will have a great bulldozer of a blade that I can beat up as much as I want.No not a mirror finish custom hand made one of a kind blade...
a Buck knife, fixed blade. My first.I love my wife,
Daddy
