Hi there,

I just recieved my first Buck, a 110 with fingergrooves. I like it ! It's quite heavy if you're used to FRN, but I like it in this knife. It fits my hand quite well, too.

Just wanting to say that it's a very nice knife, a real classic (that was part of why I wanted it). I hope it will be with me for quite some time :).

One question tough: I cant seem to find much info about the "titanium" Buck, the one with the titanium handle with the rounds in it (hope I am making myself clear here)... It was a beauty in my "youth" (about 20 years ago or something), and I recently saw one in a local knife shop... anyone has any info on those knives (steel, variations, prices, that sort of thing) ??

Best regards,

F&S

F&S, I wish you a lot of fun with your 110. It is a great knife.

The Titanium: Search in the Buck Knives Forum for 560 or 186. You'll find a lot of posts to these lightweight 110.

Best regards and no pain when you realize that you are infected with the Buck collecting fever.

Thanks for the numbers ! Ill see what I can dig up...

As for being infected: nah... I think. I do like knives, but I do have a budget as well.

However, does Buck make a nice "boxcutter"...? :)

Congratulations on your first Buck and welcome to the Buck sub-forum F&S! The 110 is indeed a great classic that will give you years of service. I got my first finger groove 110 a few weeks ago and really love the difference in grip over the regular 110.

I'm no expert on the titanium Bucks, but do a search here for 'titanium' or '560' and you will find some good threads about them. They seem to run from $50 to $90(?) in the online auctions depending on condition and variation. I'm sure someone else will jump in and give more info.

Yes, what Haebbie said.... :D one note is that the 186 model number was recycled and used on the newer Buck Odyssey. So a search on 186 will turn up both the titanium and the newer Odyssey.

What's basically the difference between the two ?
The 560 or 186 I mean. Is it the size, or the bladesteel (bg-42 I beleive ? Or is that a swap....?).

Thanks for the kind words so far.

F&S, the numbers 186 and 560 are model numbers. There is no contxt to the size fo the knife or the blade steel. The 186 was the first titanium handle knife made by Buck, assembled with a blade made of 420HC steel. But it changes with the 560 to another construction, because there where some complaints because of the removable Clip af the 186. But you find more and better information if you use the search fuction with the named two numbers.

Best,
Haebbie

So basically they are the same model (size-wise), just from a different time... good. I'll stick with the reading for now.

Thanks !

"However, does Buck make a nice "boxcutter"...?"

FS, if you are serious about a box cutter, Buck makes some fine small folders. I cut a lot cardbord boxes and use the Nano Bantam @ $13, sharp right from the box and holds an edge great. The URL to Bucks website is at the top of this page. There a couple of others that may fit the bill on their site as well.

howdy F&S and welcome to the forum!!!!
bg 42 or any othter then the 420 was an upgrade and
unfortunetly buck no lopnger does up grades to s30v or any steel on the 560 due to the rivet pivet conection... there is a thread to that also

the 560 is a great user!!! i have had 2 of them i used as EDC and it is light in the pocket and if you get it nasty you can put it in the dish washer !!!!
wow i wander if any one else pute theyre knives in the dish washer?
andy way it is 420 steel easy to fresson up ....

if you want a spechel steel i highly very highly! recomand soprceing the s30v for a all metal knife!!!!

the old 186 was much the same but a take apart but many used the wrong screws and striped the holes or lost the bearing so it was discontuned

So basically they are the same model (size-wise), just from a different time...

They looked similar; same OAL (8 1/2") & blade length (3 3/4"); clip-point blade with a finger-grooved handle with 5 indentations on each side. The 186 was held together with small screws; the 560 is riveted together. The 560 was available in several different "colors"; Mike Kerins can fill you in on the finer points. :)

If I was you (instead of me), I'd go back to that store and see what a bit of haggling can get you... :D

I've seen a gold colored and gray colored frame on 560s. If I remember right, the gold colored ones are called 'crystal' or something like that.

Tell you one thing tho.. with the 110 and the 112s being a bit heavy you dont ever feel they are gonna break on you when you really dont need them to break.

Next I am getting the Bass Pro 110 154 :)

Flint&steel,
Here are some pictures of them.

As you can see, there were several different versions through the years. The newest one is at the top of the first photo (I had the blade replaced with a better one) The bottom photo shows the 186 you were asking about. All of these show up on ebay from time to time if you're interested.

I feel inadequate every time I see your 560/186 collection Kerins! :D

Like F&S, I was in my formative years when the 186 first came out. My local gun shop had one in a glass case all by itself on the counter, like "hey, this is the ultimate knife... so good it can't be housed with the others". LOL It cost way more than my lawnmower money would cover. :o I've been in awe of them ever since! Guess I really need to buy one, huh? :D

Hi all,

the local shop has a 560-one, in "champagne" colour according to the seller. It comes with a "nylon" sheat.
IIRC, it's from 2001 (according to the mark on the blade). Maybe I should make him an offer he wont refuse... because it's listed at 113 € now, that's 125 $ or something. Quite a lot for me at the moment.

Mike: nice collection ! :) I like them. Too bad they discontinued the clip though, it's one of the reasons I also like the knives from Golden, Colorado...
