This is story of a man searching for a bushcrafters knife. I was searching this forum for suggestions on a bushcrafter's knife and stumbled upon John of JK Knives. Upon doing further research and speaking with John himself I decided to make a decision on 'The Tool.' After deciding on the knife, I had asked John to put it on his list. He then asked me what type of grind I would like, pin options, and handle options (which there are a LOT of!). I asked for a little time and just to let him know when I was ready and that the knife would start taking shape in November. I decided my options and then November came around. I was told my knife was ready to be shipped!
By the way, I'm going to say that there is no company on the planet that can compare to John's customer service. Hands down he broke the mold when it comes to customer service.
Well, the next Tuesday I was asked if I like the knife, only I hadn't received it.
There had to be a mistake somewhere but the post office was closed. Tracking information said it had arrived but it wasn't in my possession. I was leaving for work and saw my mail man. He pulled up to my mailbox (where I was standing) and said "I bet you're looking for this." He was the substitute mail man and saw the flag up on my neighbor's mailbox across the highway and when he took it out he saw that it was in the wrong mail box. So he simply brought it to me.
Now 4 days later I had time to look over it and do a little 'playing.'
Overall the knife is a 10/10! There is not one bad thing to be said about it and I do mean nothing. The Scandi ground blade is perfectly uniform on the knife as is the secondary bevel. The grooves for the thumb ramp are also perfectly ground. All the notches are spaced evenly apart and all are ground to the same depth. I love the contoured micarta handle. I chose micarta for it's durability and grip and that goes perfect with the contour. I could hold onto this thing for hours if need be.
Knife specs:
Blade Material: 1/8" thickO-1 with an RC of 58
Blade Length: 5"
Overall Length: 9 1/2"
Blade Width: 1 1/4"
Handle: Contoured green canvas micarta with brass pins and lanyard hole
Sheath: Leather Pouch with belt loop
Last but not least, some pictures: I'm going to ask in advance that you forgive the pictures. 1) It was raining out 2) I'm not a photographer. Anyways, thanks for looking you guys and thank you John for such a wonderful knife.
