So for a whopping 1$ I bought a case 11031-SH. Found it at a garage sale, and it has no play. For some reason the case xx mark on the blade is all but gone, but for a buck I'm not going to complain.

Nice find. I've bought two of those for fairly cheap, but a lot more than $1. I actually carry them fairly often. Looks to be in pretty good shape too.

Actually I looked at a tang stamp chart and it appears to be about 65-69. From the little bit left I came up with that.

Any idea like when they were made? Cool.

Case began manufacturing this knife sometime prior to 1940, and discontinued it in the 70′s, but that's all I got for you a closeup on of the tang stamp or just go to Case's web page and look up the charts

In spite of the tang stamp being scrubbed away (odd), I think I see a hint of 'XX' and the 'U.S.A.' under that; likely 1965-1970s, if so. The 'U.S.A.' didn't appear on Case's blades until '65, and the typeface/font used for the stamp looks like that used during the period. If there are/were any 'dots' under the 'U.S.A.' mark, then it'd be '70s vintage. If no dots, then 1965-'69.

Great find :thumbup: :thumbup:

You can't even buy a candy bar for a dollar any more!

Based on the shield, it looks like a 1974 to 1978 example (it was discontinued in 1978). The ground off tang stamp might indicate that it was a factory second.

Factory second? What would that mean? Never really heard of that term before. Interesting. Does that mean like a blade that they had left over and put in a new handle?

Factory second means it had a cosmetic blemish or something like that. Probably wouldn't even know the difference at this point.

Super score, Christian! :thumbup::thumbup:
At least a couple of people (but I don't remember who they were :() have posted pics of that model fairly recently, and I think it's a very cool knife, at least partly because of its no-nonsense simplicity. :cool::cool: To get it for a dollar is incredible to me. :eek::D Enjoy it!
