Hello all,
I found a plain Tanto bladed Recon 1 at the Thrift Store for $30. I figured, why not?
This store sell a lot of returns from places like Amazon. The Recon 1 they had looked used. Slight coating missing on the very tip and it looks like it was used to cut some tape as there was some residue. For all I know the people at the store might have tested it out.
Anyway. Here's my observations. The Recon 1 is thin. It fits well in my hand. I like the feel of their G-10. Nice and grippy but not too rough. The centering is perfect.
I know there isn't much love for Tantos and even less for Cold Steel but overall it's a fine knife.
The only thing I found odd was the asymmetrical thumb studs. One is much bigger than the other. Of course the larger one is on the wrong side so I had to switch it the correct (left) side.
I intended to carry it in a sheath with no clip but you can't put the clip screws in both sides with no clip attached. The screws on on side won't sit flush before they hit the screws on the other side. It looks funny with no screws so I guess I'll put the clip back on the correct side (left).
