I received my first ever Cold Steel knife today. I've been really into knives for about 5 years and I had convinced myself that I didn't like Cold Steel. After all of the positive reviews and threads about the new triad and absurd toughnes of some of the Cold Steel line I decided I had to give the AL a try.

I really like the ergos and blade shape of this knife. The thing that struck me at first was how the knife locked with such authority. I have never heard a knife snap that loud into the locked position. This thing feels like a rock. I can not wait to beat on this thing and at the very reasonable price I can afford to take it to the brink of destruction if I so desire.

You made an excellent choice. The Lawman can take a lot of punishment. I brought it with me during a recent road trip up to Canada, and it did all of my cutting and light brush-clearing.

Enjoy it. It's a great knife.

Great choice, be careful, Cold Steel is addictive, from goofy designs, crazy advertising to rock solid knives that fill a need no one else occupies, they are breed unto themselves.

Zeke put it perfectly. As I saw one fanboy post on, ahem, another forum which shall not be named, if he hit the lottery, his first call would be to Special Projects, CS's mail order store, and his end of the conversation would go like this: "Hello, Cold Steel? Yes, I'll take one of everything!"

We all have our favorite manufacturers, and they're one of my top several favorite production companies. You'll find quite a few haters here, too, but most fall into one of several categories: Those who've never owned a CS knife, tool or sword; those who didn't read the product information about a product before they bought it and expected it to do something it wasn't designed or manufactured to do; those who got a single lemon knife and swore off the company; and those who had a single bad customer service experience and swore off the company. The last two categories of folks matter, of course, but each is only ONE example.

I've owned umpteen CS knives. They've all been rock solid and tough as nails, and I've had nothing but great customer service from them, especially when you consider that only a small percentage of their offerings can be considered premium production knives.

Welcome to the Cold Steel family. I'd be willing to be you''ve only bought the first of several knives you'll be getting in the future. Enjoy your AL; it's a great knife.

I'm a Cold Steel convert too. A year ago I only owned the Trailmaster, but now own a Recon Scout, mini AL and a Voyager. I really like them all a lot. The two folders are extremely sharp and feel solid. The mini lawman has an unbelievably solid lockup - way more than would ever be necessary for such a small knife.

Congrats, it's a great all around knife and very strong. :)

I have bought more than a dozen CS knives over the years, and haven't a single complaint about any of them: an original tanto, Red River Carbon V blades, Twistmasters, Voyagers, a California drop-point, Master Hunters, an SRK and a few I forget. Lynn Thompson is one of the most innovative knife designers of the last couple of decades.

It's a nice knife to be sure! I would love to see a sprint run with CPM M4 or CPM 3V, I think the design deserves it...

I know Cold Steel gets a lot of hate around here, but they make knives FUN! Although I have never slashed up a side of beef with a knife or sword like they do in their DVDs, I'm betting that most of us here would have a blast doing it.

Holy crap. Could you imagine how many ALs theywould sell if they offered it in CPM M4?

If the offered higher end versions of the AL and recon, I'd be all over them. M4, CPM154, whatever, offer a different handle color maybe... non coated blades... drool. I know Demko can make them, but that's more than they would cost if you could get em from CS.

Well, Spyderco had an long out of stock situation with the Gayle Bradley (which has CPM M4) due to overwhelming demand. To me the GB and AL are quite similar in intended use and size but I personally prefer the AL lock and design.

So to answer your question with no authority at all....I would say they would sell a s%$# load!!!:D

A knife with the bladeshape of an AL and the handle of the Recon (with lesser of a guard) and in 3V and M4 (gotta offer both)... I doubt I'd buy another knife for a year...

I've own approx. 20-30 CS knives from the Rajah I & II, the Black Rhino, all the way down the board to the Lawman mini, ProLite, Bushman, Pocket Bushman, and the lowly Kudu. I love them all. Great lock-ups, all came razor sharp. I especially like the Kudu for my designated EDC food prep knife!

A mid-line AL with Ti or even stainless liners/frame with micarta scales and an up line steel ...bet they could sell the hell out of that. Likely less profit margin tho ;-) and I bet that is the answer.

Andrew Demko makes them. He designed the AL and several other knives that CS has gone production with. His custom AL's have become quite popular and the y start at $450.

Yeah they are pure knife porn for me, truly. Just stretching my current boundaries for budget. Also, if I buy The One Knife...what next? They scare me...it might be the last knife I ever need.

I have "The One Knife" and it was made by Demko.

BTW, I see Andrew is reading this thread... Eh buddy, any drawings yet for the folding kerambit?

I am not a CS fan. HOWEVER, i know they do make some good knives... If you like it, who cares what anyone else thinks
