Just succeeded in convexing my bk15!!

Ive tried before, its just never turned out quite right. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433028180.797816.jpg
Thats what I used...home made 2 sided strop, and my home made convexing block. Its just a 2x4 block with a sheet of thin neoprene wet suit material stapled over it. I just stapled wet dry automotive sandpaper directly over the neoprene. I used a grit progression of 400 (for the reprofiling/convex grinding of the shoulder), 800, 1500, black compound on leather, then finished with green compound on leather. Pics of my results below...

Almost the entire edge push cuts receipt paper. Im really happy with the sharpness I got here. Near the tip it looks like I may have not quite apexed the edge, it doesnt quite push cut paper.

Just thought Id share! Definitely a new horizon for me...I've progressed a lot in my sharpening skills the past year, but this takes the cake. Always fun to try a new technique out!

Congratulations! I'm a big fan of curvilinear bevels. Pretty soon you'll start whittling hair instead of paper :)

Looks great. I have a puukko with secondary bevel I want to convex. I'm just hesitant to put it to the re-profiling stag. I'm not real sure of my ability's yet. That's the exact system I will use when I conjurer up the nerve.:) Good work...

Thanks guys!

I have an old classic wood handled mora with a 2-2.5" blade thats become my shop/rough carving/leatherworking knife. I think that ones going to get the convex treatment next. Ive beaten that thing up, its had multiple angles of secondary bevels put on it since I started learning to sharpen, Its probably time to just start from scratch with the thing.
