I have a benchmade 9050 that just never held up to what I thought it should do. I have several knives made out of 154cm and this just never came close to what they can do. I got the knife used off of auction site and it looked very used and maybe even abused when I got it. I spent countless hours getting all those chips out over time. I always have been a freehand sharpener got it from my grandfather. However this knife never got up to par with what I expected. I found that the blade never got as sharp as I wanted and dulled fairly easy. It also was very prone to chips. I have been checkin out this sight for a while and after reading I wanted to try convexing to try to get a good razor sharp edge that would hopefuly last. This knife is my beater for the above mentioned reasons. I got me some sand paperwith grits 80,100,120,180,220,320,400,and 800. I picked up a 3 dollar mouse pad this weekend and also managed to get a micro mesh kit. The micro mesh kit contains the following grits 1500,1800,2400,3200,3400,4000,6000,8000 and 12000. I also have a homemande leather strop not that great but it works. I began working my way through the grits reprofiling with the 80 and on down. I must say it took a while but I got a very sharp knife after a hour or so I tryed shaving and it will. I am the most shocked by the micro mess kit though it was used to finish the edge to a miro polish and also mirror out the bolster on my well used case trapper. and try to polish the blade back up. That was a wasted effort due to the amount of rust she has seen 80 grit sandpaper couldnt get all the pits out but the micro mesh kit done very well. That kit shows no sign of wearing while I have been trough several pieces of sandpaper of the 80-800 grit. I think some of you might be intrested in trying one it isn't cheap but you might like it. i think as a knife nut it is worth having around to put the shine back in to welll used knives or just a touch up here is a link to the one I have. http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/s...rasives___Micro_Mesh_Sanding_Kit___micro_mesh. I cant wait to see how the mirror polished edge will hold up already showing some serious potential. Thanks to all those who posted about convexing I am joining the dark side for this knife to see if it works out.
