Hello all, new to this subforum. I just got in trade a new cqc7. Now since i was much younger, I have always wanted this emerson, looking at it online and being 15 without a real job, it seemed unobtainable. Well 10 years later, I finally got one. I love it so far. Fit and finish are very good, in a rugged sort of way. Lockup is perfect, and the blade is perfectly centered. The action, with a little adjusting here and there is silky smooth, with a satisfying click when the lock engages. When I recieved it, it was very sharp, but not as sharp as "I" like to carry my knives. I freehanded it, and it turned out rediculously sharp. Who ever said chisel grinds cant be sharp???? The only downfall of this knife is I am a lefty, which is why I was happy to find a seven without the wave. I have been adjusting to drawing it out of my left pocket. I know emerson makes lefties, but I cannot afford retail, as I have heard you can only get a left from emerson themselves. All in all, im as impressed as I first stumbled across them back in 1999. Only problem is, now I want a cqc14, how do you guys like them? I took a few pictures, hope you like em...

The 7s a great knife, congrats on your score

The 14 is also a great knife and they are well liked here.
I have nothing but good things to say about the 14 and can defo. recommend it.

The 7 is great. Many "experts" say the chisel grind won't cut, but we know the truth here. Enjoy that sharp edge.

Lycosa, quit tempting me with that zero grind. I'm trying not to spend right now...

I love my 7b for travel on my motorcycle. It's small but rugged, doesn't dig into me ever. Always at the ready.

The 14 is a little big in the handle department, so it's a little bulky in comparison and for some reason I can't make it as smooth as my 7b when opening it up. I use it, just not as popular as my 7b. On the plus side the handle on the 14 fits my hand better for hard use, go figure!

There is nothing like that moment in a knife knut's life when he gets his first Emerson. The 7b is a great knife to start with too.

Truth be told, I traded my user ZT0302 for this. The emerson saw more pocket time in 3 days than the zt ever did. The zt is an amazing knife, but there was something about it that I never fell in love with. I will be purchasing more emersons in the future for sure. I would really like to find a cqc7 trainer in the future. I have been in martial arts for the last 12 years, and recently found some people to train with where I live that train open hand defense with a knife and knife vs knife training that I am getting into. An emerson trainer would be awesome to have instead of the rubber or aluminum knives we work with since i am EDCing the seven....

I suggest getting the folding kerambit and trainer. What's better, they open when drawn by snagging your pocket.

Yeah, My one buddy does a lot of impressive work with a karambit, but its apples to oranges. Karambit is learning a whole new weapon, with different practices and applications, whereas fixed/folding knives are in their own league as far as training is concerned. I wish i could stumble across a persian sometime, Ive played with one before.

Then get a Commander or CQC8. Give the wave opener a shot.
