I am a little more than excited that I have my first CRK on the way - a new small Sebenza 21!! :D

So, I think the blue stuff is a little too "blingy" for my tastes and want to change it to plain silver.

I've read some threads that said you could use a dremmel with a plain cotton buffer pad to take the blue off. But my question is, wouldn't that shine part of the tumbled blade near the thumb stud and on the handle near the spacer?

I guess what I'm asking is, should I just bite the bullet and turn around and ship it to CRK to replace with silver when it arrives? I'm going to hate to send it right back out the door as soon as I get it, but I don't want to mess it up either....

Thanks!!

I wouldnt attempt it. Too many ridges to try and get into. Don't want to ruin that gorgeous blade.

I buffed the gold of the spacer and stud on my small classic and it did nothing to the tumbled finish ! Just be careful ! The color comes off quite easy if you use the felt buffing wheel for your dremel.

Send it to CRK. I called and got a quote, it was under 10 bucks to get the silver. Plus S/H both ways.

You could also just try taping the area around it. Take your time with the taping and you should be pretty safe buffing it.

Awesome knife! I'm not sure I trust myself to be as steady with a Dremmel though...maybe if I didn't just shell out $330 for this pocket knife...

I called, and it's actually $11.50 + $13 return shipping, so $24.50 plus my shipping cost to CRK.

So maybe I'll try the blue for a couple of weeks first as someone mentioned...

That's a pretty good idea... I wonder if I would have a slight blue ring though around the bottom of the stud where the dremmel didn't get due to the tape.. anyone tried this technique?

I used simichrome polish on my Insingo's stud and spacer, using a cloth and q-tip. It removed 100% of the blue on the spacer, and 99.9% on the stud with zero damage to the stonewash finish.

There's really nothing to it. But if you like to spend money you can always send it in.

I did mine a few weeks ago.

I used red jeweler's rouge just to make things go a little faster. I taped up the blade around the thumb stud just to make sure I didn't slip and accidentally polish the blade.

I did the front and back of the thumb stud along with the lanyard bar.

I think it turned out alright.

That is weird, I had just called about this yesterday. I was told $8 plus shipping both ways. But they didn't say it would be so high. I am thinking buffing is the way to go.

I asked a year ago and they quoted it was $11 to replace the thumb lug with a silver one.

Or you could just use it everyday for a few years . . . and the blue finish will eventually wear off. The silver does look nice, though!

I actually think the faded blue looks awesome. You get the blue in the ridges and silver on the worn parts. It gives the sebenza some character.
