Hey guys, this was my first attempt I did a while back. Here are some pictures:
I left the head in sort of a half-stripped fashion. I wanted the coating mostly gone to look less cheap, but I wanted some of it to wear on it's own and give it an antiqued" look. I also reground the top of the head to give the top more of a point, like on LaGana-styled hawks, as well as reground the hammer-poll to make sure it was completely even.
For the handle, I used a triangular file's corner to gently carve in the lines where I wanted them, and then went back with a round file to finish them up, providing a surprisingly strong grip. I also drilled a lanyard hole and epoxied brass tubing inside, and sanded it flush. I finished by a good coating of linseed.
I beat her up in good ol' Texas, and as you can tell she hasn't gotten a good cleaning yet. Next time I have the chance, I'm going to most likely cut the handle down to about 14" or so, replace the lanyard hole, and maybe add a sharpened beard to her. My goal was a tomahawk that had a blade that was good at basic woods tasks as well as being a good fighter, but had the hammer-poll for, well, hammering things.
Thanks for looking!
