I've really been wanting one good EDCable fixed blade to finally end my search for one; I don't tend to carry fixed blades as often as folders, so I figured I should stop wasting money on more small fixed blades and instead get one that satisfies every desire I might have in a knife. I saw Chris' work on the exchange and was really impressed with his selection of steels (he's made blades in CPM 10V and 9V, two very rare steels) and the clean simplicity of his work. His order book was miraculously open, so I drew up a design with some specs and sent it over to him. In just about a month, the knife was finished, and I was absolutely stunned by the results

I designed the knife after the traditional Scottish Sgian Dubh, a utility knife carried in the sock. I was first exposed to this design from a Cold Steel Hold Out III, and love the symmetry of the design, which I find both aesthetically and practically attractive.

Here's the specs:
-.165" CPM-3V
-3.5" blade, 4.5" handle
-.155" Jade G10 scales with black liners.

The super thin handle profile was to make the knife more easily concealable, it feels great IWB because the overall design is so slim. Jade G10 has always been my favorite color option, but it's used so infrequently that I have yet to get a good knife with it. It's ground super, super thin and is easily the best slicer I own. The performance is insane and the edge Chris put on it is quite literally the sharpest I have ever experienced. I can't say enough good things about Chris himself; he was courteous, prompt, and quite reasonable with the price. If you have a fixed blade idea in your head, I highly recommend you give him an email

He made a twin of a Barong and little too much for me to say this but i put it on bedside. I think he nailed it right on the spot and it's sexy.
It actually got me to a point that i'm thinking of getting a 2nd one but in thicker stock. That i will have to suppress since my wallet isn't getting thicker.

BTW, a very nice jade G-10 and a lovely grind on the SD! Do tell us how do you like it in use!

My recent Big Chris custom experience was much the same. Quick, clean, good price, super sharp, super steel (S90V) and easy to work with. I've got to slap some scales on it but I'm pretty confident that it'll be an amazing companion that will cut and cut. I've got nothing but good to say about working with him.

I really love the G10 on it; it's not the really light colored stuff you see on the Spyderco Leafstorm or Bark River knives, it's much darker like real jade is. I need to ask him where I got it since I'm hoping to start making knives in the future and I love the stuff. I've been using it as much as I can, and the performance is just remarkable. My girlfriend lives on a farm with a bunch of horses, so a lot of hay bales get opened. With my normal assortment of knives, I need to saw through the baling rope, where as this is so sharp and so thinly ground that I can just sort of tap it against the rope and it cuts it. I giggled the first time I did it because it was such a surprise.

Always been a fan of Big Chris' work. I have an EDC by him, a 4" blade in Cherry and it is one of the most ergonomic slicers I have. Shame I only have a right hand sheath for it
