My First Custom Framelock Flipper

I just got my first framelock flipper. It opened fine about six times, but after about ten minutes it seemed that the ball detent was gone. There is little resistance on the flipper, and the blade just swings open with a bend of the rest. It doesn't flip open.

I love my knives, but I don't know much about the construction of a flipper. Is it possible for a ball detent to simply drop out? I didn't cut anything with it, or put any loads on the blade at all. Any thoughts?

By the way, it is a $600 American-made custom. I'm the first owner, and it came directly from the maker.

I've never read anything about a ball detent just falling out like that. Sounds like you should contact the maker asap.

I opened it up to see if I could identify anything awry. I couldn't find a ball detent, or anything that looked suspicious. I've already sent an e-mail to the maker. I think it's going back tomorrow. I've got dozens of knives, and I've been collecting for about fifteen years. This is the biggest disappointment I've ever had.

that might very well be your problem, it may have fallen out, or not have been properly fitted and installed.
