It has been my great honour and privilege to collaborate with fellow BladeForums member Defaultuser--an excellent fella who makes excellent knives all by hand. When I saw some photos of his work that he’d posted in a thread about friction folders, I simply had to contact him and ask if he’d consider making one for me. He graciously agreed.

A few months and several e-mails back and forth later, he arrived at my door this morning to deliver the finished product in person and conclude our arrangement with a good ol’ fashioned handshake. From start to finish, I could not have asked for a better experience!

The blade was shaped and ground full-flat (all by hand) from CPM154 steel that was later heat-treated to around 59-60 Rockwell. The scales are natural linen micarta, and the pocket clip is titanium. Note the super-cool bottle opener incorporated into the exposed tang…

If you’re reading this, Default, thanks again for exceeding all of my expectations! Amazing job, sir!:cool::thumbup:

Wow, thats nice. The flow of the blade and handle not only look great, but enhance functionality. Self defeating, but i'd have hard time using that for anything more than fondling.

OH yea I agree I would have a hard time carrying that other than special occassions and to show it off. that is a beautiful piece of work

Thanks for the compliments, fellas!

Of course, I slipped my new knife into my pocket as soon as I got it, and it is a joy to carry and actually use. Very comfortable in hand, super solid, and the blade is just a wicked slicer! Anyone in the market for a nice friction folder really ought to consider contacting Defaultuser. You won't be sorry!:thumbup::thumbup:

It looks like the tip of the bottle opener could be a standard screwdriver...

Great looking friction folder you got there.

Funny you should mention this! The cap-lifter is a feature that was already incorporated into Defaultuser's original pattern, and when I saw it I was intrigued and had to have it built into mine. It did remind me of the bottle opener blade on a SAK, and I almost asked if he could grind a similar flathead driver into the end of the tang. Then I wondered if it would be too hard/sharp on my pocket-liners during carry so I scrapped that idea and didn't make the request. It would be kinda cool though! :)

Congrats. I'm really digging the blade shape. The overall pattern is excellent and the design appears to have been executed very cleanly. The ergos look like the knife would just melt into your palm. I've never been into friction folders, but I could get into something like this. Very, very nice.

Thanks for the great feedback timberweasel; I'm glad you like it as much as I do :D You had a great ideas on the blade profile; your input was very valuable. Thanks for all the good comments guys
