So I just ordered my first custom knife. I've commissioned David Farmer to make me one of his Tactical Drop Point. I'm pretty stoked about it. It has a blade length (1095 steel) of 3 1/2" and an over all length of 7 1/4". Handle scales will be made of Ipe Brazilian hard wood.

Just had to share due to my excitement. Carry on.

congrats on the order, i too also recently ordered a custom from Jay at Pinoy Steel (balisongs), top heavy tanto, flat ground, with komogong inserts, brass bolsters and pins and stainless liners all in a nice 24cm package

Presently in talks for my first as well!!! Super stoked on that, what kind of wait are you looking at??

He said 45 days depending on weather since his workshop is mostly outdoors. I'm cool with it. I anticipate it will be worth the wait. Does anyone else have David Farmer pieces they care to share?

Congrats on your first custom. But be very careful.... you have started and addiction which is hard to control.

I know, just what I need. It's definitely cool communicating with the maker directly. Gives a whole new dynamic to the purchasing experiencing. Very cool.

Here you go.

I bought this one from him here in the Exchange. He's a good guy to deal with and the knife will be plenty sharp. He made a lefty sheath for me and the knife was so sharp he cut through it when he was packing it to ship. I had to wait a few more days but it was definitely worth the wait. Congrats on the first custom. I bet the Ipe will look nice.

AH! Thanks for reminding me. I forgot to tell him I was a lefty.

BTW, that knife is simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I like it a lot. It's made from an old sawmill blade and has Olive wood scales. I've always thought that knives made from old blades or files were cool.

Not as much as I would like. I use it when I can around the house or when I get some time to spend outdoors. Unfortunately a fixed blade isn't very practical for EDC where I live. If it were, this one would be just the right size for the job. The OAL is a tad shorter than the one you ordered with the same blade length. It's just big enough to get a full grip on but still be barely noticeable on the belt.
