may look terrible finish wise but it does perform. Its my first try at a Comp cutter and well flat grinding is something I have not done much off.

But under all those scratches is some badass steel that can go from 2x4's, aluminuim cans, plastic bottles with ease and remain hair poping sharp

This stuff is not cheap very unforgiving on the grinder and impossible to finish after Heat treat, hence the bead blast . I will hand finish the next one, I really did not want to spend to much time on this one not happy with a few things needs a few fix'es in the handle area?

Please excuse the used looked these photo's where taken post cutting

Thanks to Warren O for the handle material and HT info

comments welcome

cpm M4 Paul Bos HT

Neroprene handle ( horse stall rubber ) very dense but good damping overall.
Convex edge

Thanks

What do you call that blade style? Dao? It looks mean.

I like the handle material original and highly effective. It was new not used horse stall rubber right? J/K. Does it cause any hot spots in the hand?

The handle design is striderish and looks comfy:D . Hope to hear more on the M4's performance from you.

Not bad! Looks like a real cutter there Spence! Better put a thong band on that thing before you slip and end up missing somthing that the Miss's will miss!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike and Manuela

Ahaha, good advice! Even if you miss the jewels you wouldn't want to take out a spectator... This is my favorite from you I've seen. I'd like a little more drop to the handle and maybe a bit more rounded handle but it's looks real "mean" the way it is. Nice work!

Spenser, are you entering some cutting competitions?

Keith soon I will be out of the army and free to make a few comps a year. I think its a great way to learn about the knives we use and really would like to be a fly on the wall and learn some great thing from a group of great minds.

Yea this one well it looks like shit but so did my first knife, do something long enough and they will get better!

I have found it to be a great frustration tool;)

That is a great looking piece SAR, I would like to know how that CPM M4 holds up and performs as I dont know much about the steel.

Outstanding! Good luck in the comp's, & let us know how that steel does for you.

I have been wanting/scared to try some M4 ever since the Blade article on it.
It seems like the kind of steel that would be best suited to a powdercoating
or some other finish. I love the wharnclife style point both for the practical reasons and asthetically. Cutting comp blades are some of my favorites but I am not a good enough maker(yet) to make my own or rich enough to buy one so I will just have to put a whicked edge on my Scrapyard Dogfather when it gets here and pretend.
