I just finished my first damascus bladed knife last night at 3am.
Made for a tough day at work.:p

About a month ago I posted a question about making damascus by hand:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/839496-Damascus-by-hand

I got a lot of encouragement and some really helpful tips on how to do this properly. Thanks for holding my hand through the forge welding. It gave me the encouragement to keep going and I'm glad I did.

Specs are:

-3 1/2" guard to tip with an OAL of 7 3/4"
-guard is 416ss with Koa spacer (flanked by g10)
-handle is African Blackwood

Thanks for looking.

Everything about it is NICE. That is sooooooo nice. Did I mention that knife is nice? The handle and blade come together to make a real elegant package.

The photos are, well, nice too. It looks like soft lighting yet I see a hard shadow so maybe reflected light??? Some adjustment in Photoshop?

I read the title and thought, this is going to look about like my damascus work... Holy CRAP was I wrong, it is so much better! that thing is beautiful. I really like the KOA Spacer and the guard. You obviously put a lot of sweat and care into this knife. It shows.

Thanks very much. I couldn't believe how much material I lost to the forge and was nervous that I wasn't going to have enough for a blade. I really had to forge this one very closely to shape to get enough of a blade.

Thanks. I think the photo you mean is soft lit mostly because I held the camera low and the reflected light washed out the shot a little. But yes there was a little manipulation in PS. I'm not very good at using PS so I use the "auto" fixes and find the one that I think works best. In that one it was an "auto contrast" I think.

Excellent work! I'm glad to see that you got it done! I know it can be daunting at first to tackle pattern welding without somebody showing you in person how to do it (I started the same way), but you've done a great job. The welds look good and clean and the rest of the finish work on this knife is very well done too.

Now the hard part....making the cash needed for a power hammer or press so you can go bigger! :)

Nice knife. I like the bold damascus patterns. I did a couple damascus billets by hand at first also and man is it some work! When a Claiborne press came up for sale locally and for a good price I jumped on it. -Burton

Thanks very much. Like I said, without the help I got here I'm sure I wouldn't have had the nerve to try.
