well, i just bought the Canon 8x25 image stabilized binocs from Amazon....after rebate they cost me $175. I should have them by Wed.

i've only had tasco binocs: $19.... :o

I'm in my 50's and my hands aren't as solid as they used to be. :D

Does anyone know if they work as if they are regular binocs if the batts are dead??

i was thinking of the 10x25 since they are stabilized, but they would have been @ $95 more.

anyone else own stabilized binocs? what do you think of them?

thanks..........Bill

I bought the 10X42 L IS Canon's about a month ago and I am extremely impressed by them.I work on the ocean and ten power binocs have always been out of the question before, just because of engine and prop vibration, let alone bad weather and my 54 year old hands.

These binos are the first in the Canon IS series that are waterproof,a must have for my applications, and I eagerly awaited the first chance I could find to buy them and took it,that day.I was not dissapointed.

The optics, with the IS turned off[or the batteries dead] compare favorably with Leica Ultravid,Swarovski EL and Zeiss FL binos I own.I compared them constantly for two weeks at home, looking at my many bird feeders and waders in the marsh out back.

I just got back from a two week fishing trip where I used them daily in plenty of rough weather and the IS feature is pure magic,I don't know how it works but it does.

I do have nitpicks with ergonomics, weight, objective lens covers and such, but absolutely none with the optics or the IS system.
