My first Dozier (Arkansas K series) has a nearly unusable sheath

I bought the Dozier last week. It is attractive and would be slightly heavier than my Morseth. When I inserted knife into its Kydex sheath, it took a rubber grasper in each hand plus grossly excessive strength to withdraw the knife. I did this rudimentary thing six more times with the same result. As far as I can determine, the sheath is functioning properly. Retention

Result wanted is a correctly functioning sheath with a modest reduction in the sheath's knife retention strength. What procedure do I complete to obtain this result?

Did you lift up on the knife before extracting it from the sheath?

I am unclear what direction of "up" is up. I prefer to wear knife sheath on belt cross-draw over left side of pelvis. In that position, I understand "up". However I also tried grasping horizontally knife. I also tried twisting knife while trying to draw it. This is proper method to draw a revolver from Bianchi CW series of spring clamped holsters.

So far, nothing helped and problem remains.

I'm guessing that Kydex sheath has extreme resistance to changing fit of knife-to-sheath. So trying to relax Kydex where knife handle snaps into sheath by adding 1/8 - 3/16 inches of tape, then leaving thickened knife [handle] sheathed for a week or so to lower Kydex's retention strength. Will this kludge work?

On my Dozier KM6 kydex knives. I insert my thumb into the top opening of the sheath. It helps. As if you were prying it open. I find that it takes the tension/pressure off while extracting the knife. Hope this helps.

With practice you can almost’shoot’ the sheath off the knife by pressing on the belt loop.

I replaced the horizontal Kydex sheath on my Dozier K1 with a sturdy leather one because I didn't care for the horizontal carry. Plus I thought leather was more appropriate for its gorgeous jigged bone grip.

I just got an Akeron La Sanction and the pull was unbelievably hard, it came out sheath and all from by belt, the Ulti clip didn’t hold it was so hard. I wiped the blade with oily cloth just forward of the scales, it pulls so easy now. Just the lightest film of oil makes the friction go away.

Yeah I tried that, and it was seriously hard to do. So I gave the knife a tug and that didn’t work. It’s fine now.no thumb ramp on this kydex.image.jpg

You are not doing it right. You DO NOT pull it straight out. It is a mechanical sheath, not a friction sheath. You take your thumb and push down on the top of the belt clip. As soon as you see the Kydex start to open on top it comes right out. These are the best kydex sheaths in the industry and they work every time. I helped Bob at the Louisiana Custom Knife Show this weekend and have worked many other shows with him and we have to explain to the newbies how to open them or they risk slicing their hands. It opens with one finger every time when you learn how to do it.IMG_6131.JPG
