My First Emerson and immediate impressions (CQC-12)

I just scored my first Emerson, and of all the possibilities, I got the one that the man, Mr. Emerson apparently used to carry himself. The full titanium CQC-12 Comrade. Holy crap this knife is amazing. I've heard all these complaints about Emerson and while they might be true, based on this knife, I'm going to assume that they are the minority of owners and not the majority.

This knife out of the box looked like there was so much attention to detail put into it. Along with a Sebenza, I've never felt such a solid knife. I mean, the blade does not budge at all when locked up. The clunk that you hear when you deploy and lockup the knife is even more satisfying than the thwack that you hear in a Sebenza. The grind on the knife, and the geometry of the edge is perhaps the most perfect grind I've ever seen on a knife, again alongside the Sebenza. I can't speak to the other models of EKI, but this CQC-12 is second to none, in terms of knives. I'm so ridiculously stoked about this knife. If I had to describe this knife in one word, it would be BADASS. No space. :P

If a knife is any indication of the man, or of the company, I'd say that Mr. Emerson and EKI is amazing. And I ain't trying to kiss ass. That's the impression this knife leaves me. Honestly, similar to the feelings I had of my first Sebenza. It just makes me respect Chris Reeve because his knife was just that amazing. Now for me, the same can be said about Emerson. I like Spyderco and Benchmade as much as the next person, but none of their knives have left me in awe like the Sebenza and now this CQC-12. In fact, I've never even written an quasi-review before. Not even for the Sebenza, but this CQC-12 just made me feel like doing this.

Anyway, now I'm just being long winded. If you ever have a chance to check out a CQC-12, especially the full ti version like mine, don't even pause to pull the trigger. It's awesome. Later

The CQC-12 and the HD-7 are the reason many of us wish Emerson would switch to framelocks altogether. But I like the CQC-12 design, even if it were a liner lock, it's just better the way it is. :D

Alright Russel, I took some pics from my phone, but they turned out upside down. But you get the point. This is just for you man. Hope the pictures work. If it doesn't, sorry! But I love this knife.

Edit: The link didn't work, but here's the hyperlink: http://pyaoliang.xanga.com/albums/1bdeae2d313b3c/

Hopefully that will work.

That is one seriously mean looking tactical folder Pat. Very nice!

Absolutely. Great fit and very smooth. Not for sale yet :) but if it ever is, I'll give you first crack at it :). How's the alias and sebenza?

The look of the CQC-12 might be a little too tactical for me, but my tastes have changed before. Could just be trying to keep myself out of the poor house. I like the Alias...but I have a sinking feeling I'm not going to want to keep it after I get my Sebenzas on Monday (did you see I got a small as well?). I seem to really be developing a preference for full flat grinds (my Ritter mini has a magnetic pull in the morning when I'm deciding on my EDC for the day), as well as high hollow grinds.
The other issue with the Alias is that it's new and I haven't wanted to reduce it's value by carrying it, both of the Sebenzas have already been carried so I won't feel bad at all about putting them through their paces and throwing them in my pocket with keys and change. So if you decide you want the Alias back, I'll probably make you a goo deal on it :D
Cheers!

That's always the problem with new knives! You never want to carry it! That's what I'm doing with the Emerson right now. It's like screaming to be used, but I'm not 100% sure on it. I love it, but for the price, I don't know if I can yet. I had the same problem with my first large Sebenza. I just got rid of it and now have the micarta seb which handles the marks a lot better because of the inlays. The Alias is always on someone's want list so you should have a problem selling it and at the very least breaking even, give or take a few bucks. Take care bro!

Glad you like your CQC-12. I like mine (Same as yours, but with the satin finish, which in '06 was still a coating). Many share your opinion of the CQC-12 & HD-7s & want 1 or both, but they're not being made at this time. If/when you find one that's NIB/mint, they're awfully expensive.
