I received my first Emerson in a trade last week and have to say that it is AWESOME!!! Although I consider myself a dedicated, and hardcore SpyderKnut, my new Commander has replaced my Military for primary EDC. Just something about that Wave...;). Besides that cool Wave feature, the blade shape itself makes this Emerson a great conversation piece, not to mention a serious workhorse of a blade. I just had to post here in regards to how satisfied I am with this Commander. A couple of days ago I also received my second Emerson--a LaGriffe, that I bought from a fellow forumite at the USN, and I am equally impressed with this little blade.

I feel a new addiction coming on.....:D ;)

Thanks, EKI.

Nice knife KBR :)..Congratulations!

I have one of these green handled 2000 Commanders and feel just the exact opposite. Give me a Sypderco any day.

If I may adjust Colonel Townsend's quote just a little bit... "Only sharp knives are interesting."

Cheers.

I don't get it, Harry.

Are you saying your knife is dull?

I've found the chisel edge to be fairly easy to get to the point of scary sharp, even if it doesn't feel that way on first impression. Takes a little getting used to.

Have you read the sharpening info on www.emersonknives.com?

If you're interested in getting rid of it, you could put it up for trade on the exchange forums.

Better yet, send it to me. :)

Yeah, it's sharp as far as chisel grinds go and yes I've touched it up with my white Spyderco Sharpmaker rod just like the EKI website instructed. I'm still not very impressed with the edge overall. The knife itself is very well put together. Built like a tank, in fact.

If only Emerson would have left the blade part of the Commander to Spyderco it would have been the ideal tactical folder. :D

Seriously, I've been disappointed in the Commander since the day it arrived in the mail. I gave it an effort, a mighty effort, and still can't warm up to it. I've listed the knife for sale on a couple forums and plan to list it on Ebay. Though I'd certainly consider a trade for a Spyderco Civilian.

The last thing I want to be labeled is an Emerson basher. But alas, I just don't "get" the huge following of these knives. Cheers.

Harry,

Well, that's understandable. Different people have different tastes. You don't have to be a fan.

The chisel grind is a lot different. It doesn't "feel" as sharp, even when it's at that point of scary sharp. It cuts differently, and kind of pulls to one side. It took me a while to get used to, but now I have a very hard time leaving the house without my mini-commander.

Spyderco makes some nice blades, and the civilian is a cool piece. If I had an extra one, I'd trade ya for the commander. Unfortunately, I'm pretty attached to my CF Civilian.

My only problem with the civilian is.. it's not exactly a useful knife. Probably great for self defense, but you wouldn't want to use it to cut your bagel in half, or to open a box.

And, it doesn't have the wave. :)

I think, as hawkbills go, I'd rather have a P-Sark for EDC.

As for your commander, you could always reprofile the blade and turn it into a two-sided edge. It's not that hard, it just takes a while. Lots of other people have done it. Get a decent coarse diamond stone, and it won't take nearly as long.

Or, try trading it again. I'm sure there is someone out there who is stuck with a civilian, and desperately wants a commander. :)

Have a good one!

Congratulations on your new Commander. I too love Spyderco knives, and I got my first Commander not too long ago, then another, and then a CQC7. I'm kinda hooked on both, and hope to get myself a Super Commander one day.

I have just received my first Emmerson Commander, a green handled- black blade with combo edge. I am also empressed. It has replaced my Endura as my EDC. The lock-up is the tightest of any knife I own. And it is hair-poppin' sharp.

Yester5 - A green G-10 Commander with a black serrated blade?! Great score. I have the same except with a plain edge. Mine's a 2000, so it has the top swedge, and the dark OD green scales. Order a black skull clip from EKI or TAD for it like I did mine. It'll complete the package and look really cool. Does your's have the light or dark green scales?

Whatever the shade, the Commander GH BTS rocks. Glad for you that you snagged one. Not as common as a lot of the other configurations...

If you don't mind, I will e-mail you a couple scans of my commander- then you can tell me, OK?
