Hey all,
I just got my first Emerson, a gentlemen Jim, and thought I would share my first impressions. The first thing I noticed was the level of grip the g10 had, it's very similar to my m4 manix. This combined with the tight pocket clip are bound to destroy my pockets. Who cares, I can get new pants. The next thing I noticed was the thumb disk, another first for me. I found it an easy way to open the blade when not using the wave feature, which I really love. The wave is easy to use and almost intuitive. The blade opening is a little stiff, I played the the pivot a little and got it to a level I like that still keeps the blade centered. The blade came incredibly sharp and the satin finish looks great. The grinds are uneven, but I rarely get production knives that have even ones. The lockup when opened is also rock solid. Overall I am very impressed with the knife and will probably get a v grind cqc 7 sometime. Hope this helps if anyone is on the fence about getting an Emerson.

carry it and use it for a month and then share your updated impressions. I'd be curious to know what your thoughts are.

Hope you enjoy the wave!

Charlie Mike, my first impression with a wave was the hest folder. The bottle opener works as a wave, not sure if that was intended. Anyway, I now see why you like to wave the folders you can. It's pretty damn awesome pulling out your knife and already having it open, best alternative to a fixed blade.

When I get a knife with a really aggressive texture and a tight clip, I make pencil marks at the clip edges. Then remove the clip, wrap 400 grit sand paper over the tip of a flat blade screwdriver and smooth out a rectangle under the clip using the lines as a guide. You still get good pocket retention, but not the abrasion on the pocket material. Just a thought.

Me too! Good technique man!

Funny you posted this because I've been on the fence about getting an Emerson the past couple days. I'm looking at the Super CQC-8 but the Jim is beautiful too. Having trouble finding a good online retailer for them though..

There are quite a few good dealers. Several that are dealers on BF. Emersons are done in batches so you have to wait till a dealer you prefer has what you want.

Guess I can name a BF dealer in a thread?

LanTac and New Graham are both great to deal with.

Yeah, just saw New Graham, thanks. Guess the backorder wait on the Super CQC-8 will give me time to think about it.

I've seen one of those for sale in the last few days. Keep an eye on the for sale by dealers forum. Most dealers post when they get an Emerson shipment in.
