My first Emerson

Hello everybody. I am thinking about making the serious decision about buying a good knife and as such am thinking about buying an Emerson. When I started my knife search my price window was no more than $125 canadian. However by browsing the internet I can across the Emerson website and I think that I might throw my price window out the window for a $200 canadian Emerson. I am looking at the CQC7 models due to their price. Could someone explain the main utility and everyday use of getting the chisel style blade over the drop point blade. I will be getting the serrations on either for cutting ease. My other choice is getting the mini or full size. I kinda like the mini so it doesn't look like I am pulling out a sword. I have not got to actually see the knives because I am ordering online and there are no good knife stores in my area. If you can just give me your suggestions below... I just graduated from high school and have a part time job so I probably shouldn't be spending this much money on a knife anyway, oh well.

Danny:

On the CQC7 model, I would highly recommend the CQC7 with the wave. They are only available in the tanto version. The wave feature allows for lightening fast opening; even if you don't "need" it, it is very very cool.

All Emerson knives are "chisel". Some have a primary grind on the back side such as the "A" models, but the edge only comes down on one side. On the "B" (tanto) models, the back side is completely flat.

Many people consider the "A" more adept to utilian uses, and the "B" more geared toward defensive options. Truth is, they will both work as defense tools, the "A" is probably more suited for everyday chores; the "B" is the more popular model.

You might consider getting a SOCFK. Check them out at www.tacticaledge.com (this is the ONLY source for them)

You will NOT regret getting an EMERSON.

Thanks for your reply. I am leaning for an Emerson now. The only thing that I am not looking forward to is my parents reaction to spending that much money on a knife (I still live at home, just graduated though). I now have to choose which one I want, or can afford. My decision right now is still either the mini CQC7 or full CQC7.

Thanks

Danny

I personally like the mini CQC-7A. It cuts like crazy and I would think that it would serve well with SD. The only thing lacking is the wave...:(

Well, then don't tell your parents how much you spent on it.:)
In all seriousness, you can find good deals on the various forums from time to time if you keep your eyes peeled as well as on Ebay. If it is for utility I would go with the A model. If for SD I would go with the waved model that only comes in Tanto. I would stay away from serrations altogether unless you are cutting a lot of fibrous materials, in whicj case you should get a fully serrated blade. As long as it is legal where you are I would also go with the full size. It is not a huge knife (only .4" longer than the mini) but the extra size can be helpful and will seldom be a hinderance (now that you cannot take any knives on airplanes). Good luck and enjoy your new Emerson.

Thanks for all your replies. First to comment on the parents situation. I will have to order the knife online. Living in Canada in a hick town sucks. The only knife stores are hours away and nothing spectacular. In order to get the knife as soon as possible I will have to use my parents credit card which they see the bill for. (I am too young for a credit card, well until I turn 19 in 17 days) I have thought of a way around this by sending my order through the mail as the knife company gets the knife to their store. (www.knifezone.ca). Parents won't know a thing except for my wicked knife and frequent drooling over it. As for the serrations I have already ruled them out since I wrote the other message. If I get fullsize it will have to be a wave but I still ain't sure.

Thanks

Danny
