Well folks, it's on the way! Let me tell you, I'm so excited it's ridiculous...I picked up a Super SOCFK from Extreme Outfitters, and from what I've heard from other owners out there, it is one hell of a monster when it comes to cutting power! I can hardly wait for it to show up in the mail... What are your thoughts about the knife? On a side note, I'm thinking about getting a custom sheath for it, as EKI stopped producing their rapid deployment sheaths, and this is no good for me, as I really wanted a Kydex sheath that could engage the wave...Any ideas? I'd be open to other sheath materials. I'd considered leather, but I tend to beat the living sh*t out of it and make it look horrible. I know you bright folks can come up with something! Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Samson

P.S. Another thought just occured to me...the blade is 154CM, which means sharpening is an issue too...I want a Sharpmaker, but IIRC, I heard elsewhere that the Sharpmaker can't quite get the right angle w/o modification. Ideas?

congratulations the super SOCFK is a great knife, the SOCFK is my fav non custom emerson knife made and the super is just a bit better ya will like it i bet.

imho sharpmakers arent the best at sharpening chisel grinds the angle isnt right, ya can make it work by holding the knife at a diff angle than straight up/down but to me the hassle isnt worth it i sharpen CG's on a std norton hard india stone (8"X2" ~$18 & NGK) till i get a burr and then strop on a steel till sharp, but the SM will work, just seems like the long way around the barn to me.

Yeah...I've never sharpened freehand before. Do you have any recommendations for knives to start out on, cuz i don't want to ruin the edge on a $200 knife. not cool at all. thanks for the help.

well CG's arent hard to do, maybe try putting some masking tape on both sides of the blade to prevent scuffs and then mark the edge w/a black marker to see exactly where ya are sharpening, and give it a try, its not hard at all imho, it would take a lot of honing to mess the edge up too.

hey ya gotta learn sometimes lol.

give it a try & if ya cant do it send it to EKI or ya could send it to me and i'd sharpen for ya.

It came today! Man this blade is HUGE!! I knew it was going to be larger than average, but DAMN! I like it. It's a little too some things, but I think it'll do nicely as a workhorse. I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations for sheaths or holsters. I don't want to lose the wave function, but I've got a hole in my jeans already and I haven't had it a whole 24 hours yet! Thoughts?

congrats Samson! Please tell me: did you get one with a Tanto blade?
I'd really like to buy me one, but the SOCFK with the drop point/ spear point blade. I've tried to make contact with Extreme O. but without results. Could anybody help?

I can tell you anything you need to know. I got the Super SOCFK, which is a monster. I did get the Tanto, because it's more useful for me at work. The standard SOCFK is similar in size to the CQC-7. Extreme Ops customer service is not that great, and their people are very unhelpful over the phone. I had heard enough good things about this knife beforehand to just take the plunge and hope for the best as soon as I had the $$. fwiw, I'm hooked on Waved blades now, and I want to save up to get a standard SOCFK as well as a few other styles ('10, Sark, HD-7, Commander, a few Karambits). I've definitely got the bug now...:D If you need anything else, just PM me and I'll try to provide you with as much info and help as I can.

Cheers!

hey, the lockup on this new Emerson is so solid it's ridiculous. i tried dry lubing the liner and pivot point to smooth it out a little. it's not that i want there to be any play in the blade, but if i wave it open, the liner bites into the rear section of the blade, and i have to use quite a bit of force to disengage the liner. any tips? thanks in advance.
