I am eagerly waiting for my new cqc-13 to show up at my door. Ive always wanted an emerson just bc of their history in the knife world but after seeing a picture of another members dad's cqc13 i remembered how pretty those 13's are. I cant wait.

and am i the only one who gets really anxious when they see there is only one of the knife they want left? like they are worried someone else is about to snipe it out from under them? haha

oh, i'll post my thoughts on the knife when it arrives.

Stonewashed. With partial serrations. I kinda wanted the black coating just bc I like the way they look after years of use

Congrats on your purchase, i know the feeling you have as i get it all the time. I've owned a few Emersons and there are some things you should know about them. First off your lock is probably gonna be sticky for awhile until you break it in, second every emerson i've had you haft to adjust the pivot regularly or you will develop blade play, (a little loctite) will fix this. 3rd is emersons are known for lock overtravel your liner lock maybe 90% engaged after less than a year. Now I'm not saying its like that on every emerson, but the ones i've had most of them have had 1 of the 3 things if not all 3 of the things i have mentioned. With a little adjusting every now and then the knife should serve you for years n years, just wanted you to know those 3 things in case they happen eventually you won't freak out like i did the first time they happened to on of my emersons.

I'm anxiously awaiting my Mini Commander, and yeah it's been excrutiating waiting for it to arrive!

Right there with you. Been wanting one since i got into knives when I was like 12! I hope I like it and don't encounter any problems that will cost more money tho, and hope you like your new Emerson as well!

Okay my cqc-13 is here and it is spectacular. the handle really feels perfect for my hands, like it was designed for me. nice secure grip, extremely sharp and light. it looks alot bigger than it feels. there is only one problem.

when i open it slowly it lock up fine. but when i flick it open fast or wave it open, the lock goes to far and gets stuck. i have to use my keys to dislodge it from inside the knife. You can hear a click then the lock bar goes to the usual position and operates normally. im sure there is a quick fix for this right? anyone have this happen to them

I hear this is normal for emersons, but maybe more experienced users could share their thoughts.

i got my minicom a few days ago, and noticed my lock is stickier when I wave it too. I also had rust in the choil and another cutout area on my blade, due to the rough machining down there, and I was unable to polish it out. Love the knife, but this proves that finish does affect function. Smooth steel is not as prone to corrosion.

Anyway, enjoy your new knife! I'll be doing the same!

i really like it except when i cant get it to close. i have been thinking about getting a mini commander but decided to see exactly how much i like this one first

I found that when my lock sticks, if I just pull back on the blade, as if trying to open it farther than it will go, it helps to release the lock a little easier. Doing it this way has kept me from having to use a hard object to release the lock. You don't want to damage that liner. But give it some time to wear a little, and Im betting it'll be fine.
Take care.

its already starting to fix itself. idk why it was getting stuck in the first place but it seems to of lessened from repeated openings. does anyone know when they added the swedge on the cqc 13? i assume the swedge is mostly to make it look good.

I own "a few" Emerson knives :) I can tell you I still get very very impatiant waiting and almost giddy when they arrive. Welcome to the addiction and may it serve you well.

The lock should break in fine I usually "wave" mine non stop when I first get them and after a day or 2 the lock finds its place and works flawlessly. just work it some as long as it isnt really gritty( if really gritty I take appart and clean) use it it will break in I am sure :)

i also shaded the tang with a pencil after seeing a fellow form member do the same with his framelock. it actually make a significant difference.

@itz schmiedy: i would probably go with the black. i mean overall id prefer a stonewash, but i like the way the coating wears off. looks interesting in my opinion.

One tip that may help during your break in period, when closing the blade try pushing down on the liner lock bar when sliding it to the left, as opposed to just sliding it over without pushing downward. It will smooth out over time and pushing down while sliding will no longer be necessary. I also recommend you fully disassemble and clean your new knife & put a light coat of Sentry or othet knife lube on it and find the sweet spot of your knifes pivot screw before breaking it in but thats just my opinion.
