Hey all. This is my first post on bforums. Typically I just read and research but I wanted to give my opinion on my first esee. Im fairly new to collecting blades (about a yr)and have started up a real nice little collection. A few one piece crk's, a sebenza, a busse and a few others. I was always interested in a big chopper but becuse of all the hype behind 1095 steel I kinda stayed away from esee. Anyhow I really liked their designs and after reading you guy's posts I ordered a junglas. Well first off, anyone who says 1095 from esee isnt worth the money is full o sh&#t. Im totally impressed! And I think I have a bit of authority now to say that since Ive tried some very high end steels. 154cm. s30v, infi etc. Its been fantastic. Came shaving sharp and after some hacking in the backyard on a rock hard post, it lost the "shaving" edge but still cuts through paper like nothing. I loaned it to a freind for a week (a custom knife maker I have to add) and he loved it. When I got it back I thought he sharpened it but hadnt. Kept that same wicked edge through his testing too. Hes since bought a machete fr esee and he was leary of 1095 too. Im sold. Fantastic blades. Rowen did as good of a job heat treating as esee did on design. Im a lifer and have a few others picked out to order when the funds allow. Glad to be part of the fanclub. S

Congrats on your Junglas. I have one on the way to add to the line-up. ESEE's are pretty addicting.

Rowen does a great job with these blades, very very well made. Honestly anyone who would scoff at 1095 is basically a knife snob and they don't know what they're missing. It's extremely durable steel and easy to sharpen and holds a great edge....what's not to like about 1095? Only thing anyone could ever gripe about 1095 would be rust, but that's extremely easy to prevent...so I don't see an issue there either. They're loss in the end and more ESEE's for the rest of us.

Congrats again and welcome!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum.

We do like our ESEE knives here, but we're not snobs - many of us have other brands, too.

Trouble with steel is that there is no perfect type for every possible application. There is always a compromise - if you put in too much unobtanium it is too expensive.

I would trust my Junglas to accomplish any hard use task there is. There is too much hype that goes into steel type. The knives are freakishly tough. 1095 heat treated by Rowen is my favorite knife steel.

Congrats on you first ESEE!

Those that don't try the knives, think the excitement is over-blown...
but once ya know...ya know...

Thanks for the welcome guys/gals. Im def finding too much "micro analysis" on steels since I got into this crazy blade collection thing (in mho of course). I have quite a few diff steels/manufacturers and theyre all fine blades. Theres no way I could say Im an esee only, or busse only guy. With diff blade thicknesses, grinds etc some are better for diff tasks as you well know. And Im sure as poop not gonna use my knives to hammer though steel or hit it w a sledge like the zknives guy. I have to admit though I do watch them fr time to time. Kinda that train wreck, cant look away thing. But if theres anyone reading this thats been on the fence about esee, give em a shot. I doubt youll regret it

Appreciate the post and thanks for being here!
