I own around 30 something folders but no Bucks yet. I have the basic Alpha Hunter (420HC/rubber handles) coming in today. If I like it I'll get the Rosewood/S30V version as well. I'm looking to get some more info on Buck knives in general and maybe some more specific info on the Alpha hunter model. Google is surprisingly unhelpful and just lists some Amazon and E-bay pages. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Maybe a fan page or something.

Thanks very much in advance guys and I'm excited for my first Buck ! :)

I carry that same knife every day lately :)
Smooth as silk pivot, and rock solid when locked open.
I absolutely love that design.
I made some wood scales for it, and like it even more.

Did I mention it is super easy to sharpen, yet holds an edge nicely.....

Here is mine with the 2nd rubber scaled one I bought, since I liked it so much.

I also really like the smaller Alpha Dorado too. Frequently I will have the bigger one on my belt, and the dorado in my pocket :)

Wow you did those scales yourself? That looks amazing ! I also dig the modest leather lanyard. It really completes the knife.

I've been eyeing the Alpha Hunter for a good while now but had never pulled the trigger on one. I find that a lot of my recent purchases were fine knives but lacked...that something special, personality, a "soul", whatever. Then I got a Lionsteel 116T folder which is based on a classic German pocketknife design and I fell in love with "old school" no compromise (especially on weight ;) ) designs.

Buck knives struck me as an interesting turn to take. The Alpha Hunters look good and the vast majority of online reviews were positive. Again, I'm excited for it to arrive today!

You will be hooked on em for sure!

I bought the Buck leather sheath for both of them, and the short lanyard really makes it easy to pull it out.
I ordered the leather sheaths from Buck's website.

If (when) you decide the alpha is freaking awesome, there are several others with common elements.
like the CSAR folders, and the Kalinga folders :)

The scales were easy to make. A drill press was vital.

Do a quick search here in the Buck forum. You will find lots of people who like the Alpha, and lots of info too.

Net,

You need to try searching this forum if you have not done so. List the knife model in search mode.

If you really get interested in Buck Knives there is a collectors association. It costs money to join but you get quarterly newsletters, access to the website where past catalogs, models historys and knife want/sale adds are posted. You also get two knives a year at cost from the Buck website and access to a salesman that sells 10 - 15 % over cost. Search Buck Collectors Club Inc. for the home page.

You will love your new Alpha for sure. There have been a bunch limited edition and special order knives made in this model; it's fun to look for them. But, if you are a do it yourself guy, you can create your own custom.

Wow you guys have some serious skills those scales are spectacular. My Alpha arrived yesterday and you're right, The first impression is very positive. Especially on the linerlock, it locks up solid at a nice 50% and doesn't stick even in the slightest. I'm planning to do some work on the edge though. It came out of the box evenly sharpened but the edge could use some additional pollish, it's a little crude. Might be a characteristic of 420HC, I have no experience with the steel.
