Hi guys, I just finished my first ever bushcraft! It is from 1/8 O-1 with stabilized buckeye burl. The knife is 8 inches OAL with just under a 4 inch blade. The blade is 1 1/8 inches wide at its widest point. I used cinnamon fabric paper liners and 1/8 decorative pins. The grind is a 22 degree inclusive and it is a true scandi grind with no secondary bevel. I put some decorative filing on the spine, but I probably won't do that in the future because I feel that a good bushcraft should have a right angle spine to accommodate use of the firesteel. The firesteel holder is made from wenge wood. I made the sheath myself and included a dangler for easy removal, etc.

I'd love to know what you guys think because I'd really like to make a lot more of these. Everything I've learned has been from here and YouTube. I've only been making knives for 8 months now, and I appreciate your comments and criticism! Thanks for looking!

Mike

Nice work. Love the buckeye burl. Did you stabilize it yourself? Interested in your process if you did.
I agree about the filing on the spine. I don't find that very appealing on many knives anyway. I prefer a clean look, unless it is functional, i.e. gimping.
I see a bit of jacklore in this. I have learned a lot with his vids. Hope to make one of my own soon.
I have just been working off of blade blanks so far.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Brian! No, I didn't stabilize the wood, I purchased it along with a few other stabilized pieces. It's very easy to work with and takes a great polish - it almost looks plastic. I love jacklore, he is an inspiration, so I appreciate that observation.
Take care,
Mike

I like the overall look of both knife & sheath. I agree with no spine filing for bushcraft too. The sheath has a real nice "vintage or used" look to it, nice. Look forward to more work & maybe some in action pics

I think it's neat. Your handles look a bit blocky to me, but otherwise I really like it! Good work!

Thanks - I agree, I have to do a better job of rounding the handles and keeping that palm swell in the middle.
