My first ever patina

I have never patina-ed a knife before so I browsed the forums and watched some videos and took a shot
at it. I just used standard white vinegar. I'm not a huge fan of patterns and such so I just went for a standard solid coating
on my Bk9. All feed back is welcome[URL=http://s1312.photobucket.com/user/animeherokamina/media/Knives_zpsgluuyepi.jpg.html]

I think it came out pretty well, and I'm not normally one to like a patina.

I like the very smooth look that one has, and the color is rich but simple. Almost like a finished DLC or something honestly.

Good job! Looks like a natural, hard use patina. What did you use to strip the factory black coating? Maybe I'll try the same thing.

I have considered doing the same thing to my BK9.

I think it turned out nice. It looks like an honest patina from lots of use.

Looks really good. In my experience, that dark black will rub off quite easily once you start using it. On a couple of blades, I've scrubbed them with a little baking soda and water after patinaing them and took it back down to a dull gray. I then dip them in the vinegar again and repeat this a couple of times. You end up with a not quite so dark patina, but one that's really even and holds up a bit better.

Alternatively, just use the heck out of it and don't worry about the black rubbing off and it'll all work out on it's own soon enough. ;) Not trying to criticize at all, as it came out really nice. Just trying to offer some advice.

This is 1084 steel from Waterstone Blades of Canada.
My wife's favorite kitchen knife; very much sharp as heck...
Nothing special for the patina...just regular veggies and mustard and stuff.

Nice job man. Looks nice! :D

For those who want a deep dark even patina, I'd suggest two things: 1. Clean the area of the blade you want to patina extremely well with alcohol or another solvent and make sure you don't get any oils (fingers!) on it after. 2. Heat the vinegar.

Wipe on with cottonballs+tweezers in long parallel strokes. Rinse with cold water and repeat until desired outcome. Oil afterward.

Jasco Paint and epoxy remover, I used the jug of stripper not the spray on stuff, I have gone through a lot of the spray cans and they always lose pressure resulting in wasted stripper

Looks good! Nice call on the stainless hardware and micarta grips.

Just remember to oil it for preventative maintenance (the patina will help but it doesn't hurt to be careful).
