I acquired a new ESEE 6, oiled it up, and then beat the crap out of it batoning wood for a fire. What a great knife! I love it. Now I understand what all the ESEE hoopla is about....

Congrats on your new ESEE 6 bro! Glad to hear you took it right out and put it to work.

Congrats on the 6. Don't waste time or oil on it. You may find you want to use it to cut up something to eat some day. Just keep it dry. I love my 6.

Well, I oiled it with a little mineral oil to protect against rust. Shouldn't pose a problem.

If you're using it you shouldn't have any real issue. The coating will survive anything but perhaps being run through a scrap-metal grinder (the type that they use to turn cars into little bits of metal.) The only place you really have to worry about rust then is on the edge, and if in use and not just outright abused it'll be solid.

God bless,
Adam

EDIT: By outright abuse I mean like going salt-water diving with it. Or throwing it into a pool of acid.

Nice! I almost bought a 6, but then i decided the 5. The 6 will be added to my collection soon though!
You probably wont care but i use remoil on my knives... just saying lol

much in common, we do have :D

i was seriously looking at the 6, but bought the 5 instead and figured "wth, i'm sure i'll end up with the 6 too before it's all over with"

my first experience with ESEE (and that wonderful lady "Patricia" who answers the phone) made me realize that i have a new favorite mfg :) i try not to be a fanboy and instead try to enjoy products offered by a variety of companies, but the truth is - i can see my WHOLE FAMILY switching primarily to ESEE Knives for the majority of our cutlery needs. Trailer Park Busse is where it's at  not much reason for other knives (not for my tribe, anyway)

Excellent of you to put it right to work as soon as you got it :)

As any other ESEE, the 6 is a very nice one, i'm sure you will enjoy it.

Congratulation on that RC-6

Yeah, I considered the ESEE5 also. That is one thick beast. I went with the longer knife to baton through thicker pieces of wood (more spine to strike the knife).

I'm really impressed with the steel, as it's held it's edge after a good bit of hard use. I think I want a Junglas now!

I'm going to get something in the middle as soon as I can. I went for the biggest and smallest first with the Izula and Junglas, and I am very happy with both.

23 more days till I can test out my 6. That's torture enough. What's worse is my wife has it hid somewhere here in the house and won't even let me look at it till Christmas.

I still haven't dulled my 6 yet.. never really need to baton wood for fire, but I know the 6 can do it endlessly if I do my part. I've really been impressed with it's cutting. Mine cuts very well. The voodoo for me is that it really doesn't FEEL like a big knife. Very fast, very comfortable.
