I just got my first Fallkniven F1 Black Micarta the other day from KnifeWorks and am so excited at the great quality of this knife. I don't own many knives and wanted one for camping, backpacking, and bushcraft. After reading your opinions here on Blade Forums I went with the F1. Thanks for your help in me picking this knife it is exactly what I hoped for and then some. I also got my first Leatherman Wave and love it. My question now is about keeping it as scarey sharp as it came which is like a razor:) I've read about the mousepad and sandpaper method but would I be as well off with a leather strop such as the KP-STROP8 strop block from Knives Plus or a strop bat from JRE ? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Wally :)

Congrats for that F1! I also go one myself not long ago... but didn't get that fancy. Kraton handles and nylon sheat. I have used it a little bit now and it is still sharp as hell... I just love it.

I will keep an eye on this thread because I have never ever sharpened any convex edge and maybe some folks here can point us in the right direction.

I have read about mousepad-sandpaper combos, strops and all that but I still don't know if while I should do a rocking motion with the knife while stropping or just keep the same angle and let the soft backing of the mousepad do the convexing trick. Somwhere I read that too much pressure or to big of an angle and I will end up with a rounded edge.

I have never sharpened a convex edge before either and I sure don't want to mess up the nice edge it has. Thanks for the reply:)

a mouse pad and fine grit sandpaper. That'll put a screaming edge on your convex blade. The F1 is a great blade.you'll get a great deal of enjoyment from it.

Congrats on the F-1. I just got one myself from Knife works and I am loving it.

Now I know why so many people think they are number 1.
