I just started making knives back in May 2014 using the stock removal method and generally sharpening by file or angle grinder after using a jigsaw to cut out the pattern. here are my first 3 knives i have made so far. The one in the middle i made the night of posting this thread. And the one on bottom was made using some kind of "rare canadian d84 wood" that i found on ebay. I would like to learn how to forge knives properly eventually i know i can make a homemade forge and just heat treat them although i would like to know how to make them using the from scratch method so they look like the ones in magazines or some of the better looking ones on this site. Just takes some time to get the hang of it i guess. I look forward to learning from everyone and getting to check out what all you guys have made out there, im sure most of it is inspiring work.

Non stainless steel that my dad bought at lowes or home depot. It was all I had to work with for now. I plan on getting stainless steel metal to work with for my next batch of knives and getting new equipment particularly a belt grinder to enhance my knives outcome. I started back in may and one knife not shown here was pretty much a shank I had havksawed a piece of 1" by 4-5' steel bar and filed it with a mill file. That was as crude as I got. Ive got more tools now such as a angle grinder and jigsaw so things are easier but I still havent been able to make top quality knives. Most of my friends on Facebook like my photo of my knives but I dont think they know anything about knifemaking. When I get my belt grinder soon I can make a bevel. Plus with getting upgraded stainless steel ill be able to make more impressive knives as these dont seem to be what I have in mind for optimal products.

Thanks,
Tyler Jacobs
