They are all made from dull nicholson or wiltsire files, shipping is expensive where I live and I bugger up so often that I haven't had the heart to buy nice steel yet. There were made on a 6' bench grinder and finished by filing.
The very first:

The handle was kanuka (an extremely hard native wood of New Zealand) with leather and aluminium bolster. I didn't like it very much so after much trial and error I eventually made this one:

The handle on this is pohutukawa (another exceptionally tough timber) with leather and brass. This came after a series of never completed blades that I wasn't happy enough with to put a handle on.
I felt like a change from making small utility blades so i got to making this:



This one has a handle made from some type of mahogany, leather and brass.
I am pretty sick of doing everything with a file so I am planning to make a post anvil from a big broken tractor axle I found for free.
