Just got this in the mail. My first Fiddleback knife, Asp. The knife looks amazing. The fit and finish is second to none. The handle feels comfortable, although, if it was a bit wider it would be perfect...Sneaky Pete I'm looking at you. Can't wait to try it out. Been cutting paper like a champ. By the way, the scales are made of bloodwood. Are bloodwood stabilized?

Nice blade! great spalting on that piece. Enjoy it. It won't be your last from the forge :)

I'll save you some grief and suggest that you go to your local big box pharmacy or grocery store and get some USP mineral oil. (I actually like lavender baby oil, but that's not important) and occasionally lather it up and wipe it clean. Just like you'd do a newborn kid. If you can slather it on a newborn, you pretty much know that any residual that you happen to digest after cutting your apple isn't going to make a hill of beans difference in your life expectancy or impact said quality of life. Works great and you can skip the whole care and feeding, will it rust, can I slice an apple, will the wax buildup ever come off, which is better Frog Lube or Reel Butter-- The answer is to cut into a butter fried frog leg, but that's a family recipe.

Welcome to the campfire, so to speak!

Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated.

A buddy at work has an Asp, totally envious. Great knife that feels great in the hand. Great catch, that bloodwood is sweet.

Heck of a first Fiddleback! Congrats!!! Bloodwood looks even cooler after a little exposure to air and light! Nothing beats the Sneaky/Asp handle!

Excellent choice! Welcome to a great group of people.

Take some advice from an old veteran addict here. Always set aside some Fiddleback money so when that next one comes along you can be ready. I learned the hard way. I've sold the family pets (the dog twice), the wife's jewelry and even secretly took back some Christmas presents to buy Fiddlebacks. For some reason it seems like I'm always having to "explain" myself here at home..... :D :D

Welcome GREENHOP!!

Congratulations on your first. The Bloodwood is stunning, I had a Bloodwood Bushboot for a while.

The Bloodwood is not stabilized. That means it won't get slippery when its bloody or wet, and it is not 'heavy'. It also means you'll have to maintain it with some mineral oil. Bloodwood is one of my favorites.
