My first completed hand forged knife. Its a mild steel for my dad as a birthday present. When I look I just see ways to improve it. My dads design so I figured he could have it. I forged the guard and blade from 3/8 round stock from an old electric fence post. Hardened and tempered blade. The carbon content was not too high about the same as RR spike. The forging part was fun and fairly easy but the bolster and handle that took some effort. Had lots of fun though. Don't be too tough on me.

Let me know what you think!

Very nice Jarred, Love the design, I sure could put something like that to good use. Looks like the perfect brush and yard work tool. Your Dads going to love it.

Looks like your off to a good start :)
Now you need to find some better steel so that all that hard work pays off in the end!
Sounds like you done your homework already if you know about carbon content, heat treating and tempering, now you just need to get some better materials. There are lots of things you can scrounge/recycle too, you don't have to spend much if any money.
