After reading a "survival" tips/tools/methods article in Backpacker Magazine and reading about Ka-Bars in "war story" books and accounts, I bought a Full-size Ka-Bar in black with the Kryton-G grip and black leather sheath. WOW---this thing is built like a tank! It is so cool, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning! The thing is, I kind of want to just keep it looking nice and new, so now I'm thinking of getting the smaller one and getting the Kydex sheath, which would be better for the rainy environments we seem to hike in lately!!
OTOH, I do like the SOG seal pup and the blade would definitely be more suited to rainy environments, other than the blade that isn't sharpened all the way to the handle-----big thumbs down on that!
I'd welcome any comments----I'm new here. My everyday carry is a Spyderco Delica plain blade. The rest of my small (but growing!) collection includes a Kershaw Leek and a couple Gerber LST (which, although cheap, are great-----sharpens like a razor and lightweight and slim) I just ordered an Edge-Pro and am excited about that. I have a Sharpmaker, but like the design and function of the Edge-Pro much better. The Sharpmaker is great for quick honings, though.
I guess I'm looking for support here----does anyone else buy a knife and end up not using it because you like the looks so much?
