My First Fixed Blade: Dozier Mini-Freedom Fighter

I placed my order today from bladeart.com and I should get it next week. Okay, this isn't my first fixed blade knife. Not counting the junky "Rambo knife" with a compass and hollow handle I had as a kid this will be my first. (Wait, that wasn't REALLY fixed blade knife was it? :thumbdn: )

So without doing much research I jumped at the chance of getting the Mini-Freedom Fighter. What I "know" about this knife is this. I know Bob Dozier has a great reputation. Its a semi-tool steel D-2 blade. Its less than 4" which I was looking for. And its got prominent hand guards which I like. Though I don't know much else its pretty much what I was looking for.

I can't find much info out there on this particular model so any info or opinions as a general utility/camp knife as well as a "tactical" would be appreciated.

*I came to this forum for info about Spyderco folders. But now I've become a knife nut with a Dozier. Thanks guys. My wallet thanks you.

cool knife man! I got to handle a dozier for the first time a few days ago and i really liked it. Good catch

Bob does a very nice knife. I haven't seen that particular model before, but I know D2 takes a good edge and that with Bob's high, thin grinds his knives tend to be very good slicers. Wouldn't be my first choice in a survival-type blade, but you could do MUCH worse. As to tactical considerations, it has a guard, is probably a light/fast knife with a good balance to it. That's all you really need.

I love the freedom fighter design and your mini follows those lines which look great. Guards, D2, Dozier made, kydex sheath? You got yourself a great mini fighter.

Ah, but there is an exception. The KS-7 Wilderness knife is made out of heavier stock and it is ground to accommodate heavy cutting and chopping. That would be a good choice for survival situations.

Torzjohnson,
You beat me to it, I was going to mention the KS-7 also, partly designed by Steven Dick, editor of Tactical Knives magazine.

I hope to get one someday when I have the $$$, but I just received my first Dozier.....The Arkansas Toothpick with horizontal or shoulder holster sheath.
I am very impressed with Dozier's work, so much so that I am thinking of cancelling my order with Randall and get Doziers instead.

Hi Ian111,

As you can see from the pic below, I like Doziers! You'll find they fit the hand like they were made just for you, and are beautifully balanced. They feel like an extension of your hand... you'll love it... but you might not stop at one :)

These are a couple of small Folding Hunters, a Wilderness, Pro Guide, a Slim Outdoorsman, and a K-9 Personal Utility. The lower pic is a convex-ground Delta Traveler.

I just got my first Dozier too. The Arkansas Toothpick with shoulder harness that can be switched to a horizontal belt wear.

I am very impressed with Dozier knives to the point that I am considering cancelling my last Randall order and put the $$$ into Dozier's instead.

Nice choice. You can never go wrong with a Dozier knife.

Quite true! I have a K-4 that I ordered several years ago. The workmanship is the best I've ever seen on a custom fixed-blade. :)
