My first fixed blade?

Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a new fixed blade, my first in fact. I've been strictly folders untill now. I'm looking for something between 4-6ish inches in blade length. Plain edge, non-tanto point. I'd like to keep it under $200, I really love the ZT0100, but it's just too much for me cost wise. I also like the size of the mini USMC Ka-Bar. What fixed blades fit these criteria? Any recomendations?

Check out the Swamp Rat M6 or Howling Rat LM. They are both out of stock at the company site (something you'll become familiar with if you become addicted) but either would fit your profile.

Email the contact at, Eric, at Swamp Rat and he can tell you when there shoudl be stock next. The website is: https://www.shop.ratknives.com/splashPage.hg

Welcome Agent Orange (where in Ohio?)

Benchmade 140 Nimravus
BM-H&K Snody 14150
BM Snody Resistor (3.5" blade)
Ontario RAT-5
Buck Alpha Hunter
Kabar Impact Spearpoint

All well under $200

EDIT: Almost forgot one of the best - BM Griptilian/Doug Ritter RSK Mk3 see it here http://www.equipped.org/rsk_mk3.htm (This is NOT the standard BM Griptilian)

Thanks for all the suggestions, and as far as "where in ohio" During the week I attend and live on campus of Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio) and on the weekends I'm usually at home in Maumee (near Toledo). How about yourself?

Check out DLT Trading Post for closeout prices on some of the Bark River models. They're beautiful knives with good steel, convex grinds, and beautiful natural handle materials.

If I had $200 to buy a fixed blade today, it would be the Bark River Mountaineer available at AG Russell.

I'm also a fan of the Buck Special, Pathfinder, and Woodsman. You can buy one of each and have $$ left over.

Anza has fixed blades starting at $18, or they can make you a one-of-a-kind custom design for well within your price range.

There are plenty of sub-$200 customs in the "For Sale By Maker" section of the forums.

Happy Shopping,
-Bob

scrapyard knives scrapper 6 has a 6 1/2 inch blade and is around $90 new

and has the best warranty ever!

ontario/rat knives are good as well.

How about a Scandinavian fixed blade?

EKA W11 or H8 (available at Ragweed forge).
Any Brusletto or Helle, very good knives in the sub 100 USD range.
Or if you want to spend a little more, check out Fallkniven, S1 is my favorite.

When Scrap Yard Knives makes anothe run of the Scrapper 6, I highly recommend getting one. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, then I would also highly recommend Ranger Knives; a little something from the RD series.

2nd am thinking about getting one but also am consedering other brands with same style.....any sujestions??

Nate,
If you meant you're considering knives like the Kabar, then yes: BM Nimravus is the same style. Dozens of others too (most of which I don;t own or haven't handled) but I'm particular to BM.

I'll second the Fixed Rittergrip (Doug Ritter RSK Mk3) recommendation.

I'd not heard of the ZT0100. I found it on tadgear.com and was surprised at how much it reminded me of the fixed Rittergrip.

-Blade: 4.5" S30V, 0.140" thick (somewhat similar shape, thinner blade)
-Handle: CNC machined G10 composite w/ thumb ramp, mild finger guard, lanyard hole (same material)
-Sheath: Multi-carry ballistic nylon with ABS liner (very similar)
-Overall Length: 9.1"
-Overall Weight: 5.6 oz. (9.7 oz. with sheath; MUCH lighter due to 1.25" less length & slightly thinner blade)
-Cost: $165 ($130 cheaper - almost half the price of the ZT0100!!)

I just got my Benchmade Resistor today and I've been caressing it all day. If 4" is a must the Doug Ritter RSK MK3 is solid.
