Well this is gonna be a ton of photos....here is the step by step of what I did. I'm an Industrial Design grad student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. My thesis is focused on edged tools and performance cutlery and I did this project as part of a forging elective I took this summer. Over the next year I will be working on my thesis with an emphasis on low volume production knives of my own design.

I've done 3 or 4 folders before but this was my first forged knife and my first fixed blade. Scroll down for finished knife...

100% hand forged custom knife and sheath
5150 oil harden steel
Overall length: 15.5" Blade: 9" Width: .25"
Blade finish etched with ferric chloride and vinegar
.130" Raindrop Damascus steel bolsters
Black Pambil Palm wood scales
Hand turned stainless steel hardware
Custom laser etched graphic
9oz hand dyed/formed leather
Eyelets pressed and formed on custom built machine
.125" thermoform Kydex back
Universal Tec-lock belt retention system

Total project time: 55hrs in 1 week

Let me know what you guys think! I'm really green at this so any suggestions are welcome.

Wow, amazing work. You incorporated so many different aspects of knife-making into this one project.

Thanks! That was kind of a theme in this project. I wanted to combine many different materials that I found stunning into one package. Leather, plastic, wood, steel, etc....
