I just finished these two, tonight. They are 1095, for the larger, and an old file, for the smaller. They are hand rubbed from 500 to 2000 grit, and lightly oiled.
Correction, this is a knife I completed, last night. It is based on Daniel Fairly's knives, which are well though out, in my opinion. I got the grey patina for a 20 minute bath in boiling vinegar. The blade is 1095, with black linen micarta handles. As soon as I build the sheath, it'll be going to my dad, in Afghanistan.
I'd be more than happy to try one. I've got two to finish, and provided me weekend doesn't get tied up, elsewhere, I'll start on a design for that. Out of respect for the uniqueness of Daniel Fairly's work, I will try and make it unique enough to not look like a copy. I cannot say enough how solid that blended tip is on a tactical knife, though...
Thank you! I'm working on getting the grinding techniques down. I've also got to finish my forge since I cannot heat treat anything bigger than this... I've got roughly 9925 hours left to become a master at this, if it takes 10000 hours to reach mastery.
