I just want to share with you my new integral. I collect only integrals but this is my first forged one. It's a small hunter from a knifemaker I discovered here.

Here's the details as Burt gave it to me :
"Blade is forged, clay-hardened W-2, forged from a round bar. This is the
first and for now, only knife that has reacted quite this way to the
polishing. The hard portion is quite white, and the soft portion is more
reflective and shiny. I suspect that exact alloy in this piece of W-2 is
the cause.

Everything but the blade flats are mirror polished. The handle is
stabilized spalted maple with domed nickel silver pins. Tooled sheath is
right handed with a slight forward cant.

The blade is about 4" to the front of the "bolster" area and the overall
length is just over 8"".

Burt makes some of the best looking forged integrals anywhere. Carbon, daamascus or laminate, they all feature beautiful flowing lines and superb fit and finish. The spalted maple on you rknife is particularly attractive. Congrats!

That is a gorgeous knife!! Congrats. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Congrats, Patrick. WOW!

Forget the knife. Who's giving Burt photo lessons....???!! :) (I think I just got schooled...)

Nice hamon display!

Lovely piece. One fun event at the ABS Show is when Burt asked me if "...my friend had received the integral." I had no idea whatsoever what he was talking about. Eventually I understood what he meant, as Patrick and I had corresponded in the past on integrals and I had recommended Burt's work.

I got a new integral from Burt at said show BTW. :D

Ain't seen no flies on that sheath either.

The frequency of these signature integrals on this forum suggests to me that Burt is digging out a niche that will assure his position in the pantheon of all-time bladesmiths. Even copies are now appearing, i.e., the Fisk ironwood integral hunter that went to Reno.

Hi Joss,

actually you were the first who told me about Burt Foster. And that's what I told to Burt when I contacted him !

Will you show us yours ?

The laminate?

Roger

No, I wasn't pulled on that one. I would happily have bought both.

Great - I'll use that to get a % off on my next order.

:D:D

The one I got was the one Burt posted on this post:

The green ivory is amazing.

One beautiful piece after another Burt. Love your choice of materials.

Ken, not so sure about the copy, as Jerry has been making integrals a loooong time. ;)

I really love that integral style. I've got to get on Burt's list for one.

My tenure is too short to argue the point, Kevin. But I've seen several integrals of this style all with Burt's mark to believe he was the originator and sole author. No disrespect to Jerry, one of the most copied makers of our time. BTW, his integral was something to behold. That it got little love on BF, still puzzles. I bet it was on fire at Reno.
